Firevolt is creating WheelMates, a fun, cooperative game where two players team up to drive small remote-control cars around the house of a quirky scientist. It’s planned to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (via Steam) in 2026, and they’ll be holding a playtest on PC in February.

About
An odd house, belonging to an eccentric professor, holds hidden secrets…and the mystery of where the professor has gone. To explore, you’ll control two remote-controlled cars that need to work together to unlock the house’s puzzles and uncover the truth.
WheelMates is a cooperative game where players work together to solve puzzles, not against each other. It’s designed to be relaxed and enjoyable, with no time limits or rush. Players can explore and uncover hidden secrets at their own speed, both online and locally in split-screen.
These tiny cars are equipped with amazing technology to navigate your home. They can jump really high thanks to boosters, and use grappling hooks to reach distant spots. Special magnetic wheels let them stick to metal surfaces, and they can even use magnets to move objects from afar.
Okay, so playing WheelMates, each room feels like a little puzzle box. There are tons of hidden paths and little details to find, plus these cool mechanical puzzles. The house slowly unfolds as you explore – it’s not all revealed at once. It reminds me a lot of Metroidvania games, because you’ll often have to go back to places you’ve already been, now that you have new abilities to unlock areas or solve puzzles that were impossible before. It’s a really cool way to explore!
Inspired by classic remote-control car games like Re-Volt and puzzle-platformers, our team created WheelMates, a new cooperative adventure where RC cars are the stars. We wanted to capture the exciting movement of remote-controlled cars and the playful experience of racing through everyday home environments. By adding a variety of power-ups, we’re offering a unique twist on a beloved genre, full of possibilities for fun and teamwork.
