Rosé is addressing rising tensions in the BLACKPINK fandom.
Following the conclusion of their reunion concert tour on January 26th—after being on break for almost three years—the singer, along with her bandmates Lisa, Jennie, and Jisoo, discussed the group’s future now that they’ve renewed their contract for 2023.
During a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast on January 28th, Rosé explained that the band is very careful when signing contracts, understanding the importance of protecting themselves. She didn’t reveal details about their new contract, but emphasized that they operate as a team. If any member isn’t comfortable with something, the others will fully support their decision, just like in any healthy relationship, respecting their boundaries and feelings.
The 28-year-old artist, who last year became the first Korean solo performer to win a VMA for Song of the Year with “APT,” shared that being a smaller group – BLACKPINK – allows each member to have an equal say in decisions.
She explained that we respect everyone’s choices, no matter when they’re made, and believe each person makes the best decision for themselves.
Rosé explained that whether BLACKPINK continues as a group after their upcoming EP, Deadline (released February 27th), will be a collective decision. She stated that if any member feels it’s time to stop, they will all agree to do so.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the buzz around BLACKPINK, and I know a lot of their fans, BLINKs, are worried about a potential long break after this current tour, which started in July 2025. But Rosé recently reassured everyone that their previous break was actually a really good thing – they’d been working non-stop since they first debuted back in 2016, and everyone needed that time to recharge and refocus!
The New Zealand native explained that they’re still discovering who they are and haven’t had the chance to fully explore their identity, as they weren’t given the freedom to do so in the past.

We gave ourselves a year to see what our members could achieve, and it’s been really enjoyable to watch their progress.
If BLACKPINK does take a break, they wouldn’t be the first popular group to go on hiatus. However, unlike some other famous groups, BLACKPINK’s situation seems different when it comes to how the decision was made. Louis Tomlinson of One Direction recently shared that he wished the group – including Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne (who sadly passed away in 2024) – had stayed together before their split in 2016.
Louis described Zayn’s exit in 2015 and the band’s breakup the following year as deeply painful. Speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast in October 2025, he said he felt like he was truly mourning the loss.
As he put it, “It was something that I really wanted that I couldn’t have anymore.”

The Backstreet Boys burst onto the scene in 1996 with their first album and truly defined the sound of the late 90s with their 1999 release, Millennium. Luckily, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, and Kevin Richardson are still performing their classic songs for fans more than twenty years later!

Let’s celebrate Destiny’s Child, the group that launched Beyoncé’s incredible career! And let’s not forget Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams – they’re both still hugely influential artists today.

Oh my gosh, NSYNC! Just thinking about Justin, Joey, Lance, JC, and Chris together gives me chills! They were, and still are, the best boy band ever. Honestly, I’m still desperately hoping they’ll decide to perform together again. I swear, I’d do anything to see them! And seriously, I’m not letting go – I’m definitely not ready to say ‘Bye, Bye, Bye’ to the possibility of a reunion. I’ll wait forever, no strings attached!

To truly appreciate the Spice Girls, you had to embrace their whole world – and they had a huge following! This British girl group, featuring Mel C, Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Geri Halliwell, and Emma Bunton, defined 90s fashion and pop music with their infectious songs and style. They were the ultimate dream group for a generation.

Oh my gosh, I still remember when Hanson burst onto the scene with “MMMBop”! They were totally one of the defining boy bands of the ’90s. They even managed to release another album together in 2013, which was amazing! Then, Isaac, Taylor, and Zac each started pursuing their own projects – and Taylor’s been busy raising a huge family! I was so thrilled when they got back together in 2018 with the album String Theory, and they’ve been touring ever since, which is fantastic. I’m a huge fan and love that they’re still making music!

TLC, the popular ’90s rap group, still performs today with original members Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins and Rozanda ‘Chilli’ Thomas, even after the tragic loss of Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes in 2002. Lil Mama joined them on stage in 2013, and in 2017, TLC announced they were working on new music.

Since 2017, the internationally famous K-pop group BTS has been largely responsible for writing, producing, and performing their own music. Their dedicated fanbase, known as the Army, is considered one of the most enthusiastic and devoted in music history.

Keavy Lynch, Edele Lynch, Sinéad O’Carroll, and Lindsay Armaou found fame in 1998 with hits like “C’est La Vie” and “Blame it on the Weatherman,” which were featured in shows like Smart House and Dawson’s Creek. The group split after releasing two albums in 2002, but they got back together for the 2013 show The Big Reunion. Since then, they’ve continued to perform and even released new music, including the EP Ripped Jeans in 2024.

Nick Lachey was a member of the popular boy band 98 Degrees. The group, which also included his brother Drew Lachey, Justin Jeffre, and Jeff Timmons, was formed in the 1990s when the members left college to pursue their music dreams.

New Kids On the Block became incredibly popular in the late 1980s. They reunited in 2011 and toured with The Backstreet Boys, bringing fans a nostalgic experience.
New Kids on the Block originally consisted of brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood. The group split up in 1994, but they got back together after several years. In 2011, they toured with the Backstreet Boys, which caused a huge reaction online! They continue to perform as of today.

It’s great to have the Jonas Brothers back! Nick, Joe, and Kevin each brought something special – Nick’s charming smile, Joe’s cool confidence, and Kevin’s reliable older brother vibe. And let’s not forget, they’re all talented singers and musicians! We’ve been fans ever since they first hit the scene in 2006.

One Direction was one of the most successful groups to launch from a singing competition, dominating the music scene throughout the 2010s. All five members – Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, and the late Liam Payne – have gone on to achieve significant success in their solo careers, leaving their mark on music, fashion, and film.

The pop group, who rose to fame on The X Factor, create music that celebrates body confidence, female empowerment, and the challenges of being young mothers in the age of social media.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m always fascinated by the stories behind iconic groups, and BLACKPINK is definitely one of those! You know them – Lisa, Rosé, Jennie, and Jisoo – they burst onto the scene with their first album, simply called THE ALBUM, back in October 2020. The name ‘BLACKPINK’ is actually really meaningful! Rosé shared on Jimmy Kimmel Live that they chose it because it perfectly captures their duality – they’re feminine and pretty, but also fierce and powerful. It really ties into their song ‘Pretty Savage,’ and they felt it just fit who they are as a group.

Even before “Work From Home” became a reality for so many of us during the pandemic, Fifth Harmony actually had a fun, empowering anthem about it! It’s funny to look back now, isn’t it? And speaking of empowering women, Camila Cabello really blossomed after the group took a break in 2018 – she’s had an incredible solo career, even starring as Cinderella! The other members have been doing amazing things on their own too, which is wonderful to see.

I remember discovering 5 Seconds of Summer way back when they were just posting videos on YouTube! It was amazing to watch them grow, especially when songs like “She Looks So Perfect” and “Girls Talk Boys” started getting played on the radio. Then, getting to see them open for One Direction was incredible – that tour really launched them into the stratosphere, and honestly, it’s been amazing ever since.

Still performing as a trio, Boyz II Men‘s Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris have been rocking the charts with hits like “I’ll Make Love to You” and “One Sweet Day” for over 30 years.

The Wanted, a British boy band often compared to One Direction, achieved significant success in the U.S. with their 2012 hit song, “Glad You Came.” They also starred in their own reality show, The Wanted Life. The group took a break in 2014 but reunited in 2021. Tragically, founding member Tom Parker passed away from brain cancer in 2022.

CNCO, a group formed in 2016 with members Joel Pimentel, Richard Camacho, Erick Brian Colón, Christopher Vélez, and Zabdiel De Jesús, performed together for the last time on May 14th after Joel Pimentel announced his departure.

Big Time Rush, the band that started on Nickelodeon, enjoyed five successful years before taking a break in 2014. Fortunately, all four members—Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, Carlos PenaVega, and James Maslow—got back together in December 2021 to release new music.

Girls Aloud became a groundbreaking pop group, famously formed on the 2002 reality TV show Popstars: The Rivals. The group—consisting of Sarah Harding, Cheryl (originally Cheryl Cole), Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh—quickly rose to fame. They achieved an impressive run of 20 consecutive top 10 hits, including four number one singles like “Sound of the Underground.”
