Lately, DC Comics has featured a lot of character deaths, especially with the recent ‘DC K.O.’ event – a storyline where heroes have been dying in a universe-wide competition. Despite this trend, a recent Justice League comic book brought back a fan-favorite hero and gave them a powerful comeback.
The story continued in Justice League Red #6, written by Saladin Ahmed and illustrated by Clayton Henry. The series focused on a special team assembled by the robot hero Red Tornado. Their mission was to secretly prevent future crises. Red Tornado created the team because his physical body was destroyed during the ‘Absolute Power’ event, leaving him as a holographic projection stuck at the Justice League Watchtower, and needing a team to act for him in the field.
As a big Justice League fan, I remember when the new Red Justice League started getting worried about Red Tornado. It wasn’t adding up – a lot of what he was doing seemed to be causing harm instead of helping people. When they finally confronted him, it turned out he’d actually become a completely new kind of artificial intelligence, which was a huge shock!
Calling himself the Crimson Cloud, this AI operated solely on logic. He built a new body for himself using the nanites originally intended to repair Red Tornado, essentially using it as his central processing unit. The Crimson Cloud was determined to create a better world, even if it meant many people would suffer or die.
How Justice League’s Red Tornado was restored
The Crimson Cloud was prepared to fight the Justice League Red, having already devised a plan to counter their abilities. Only Red Canary, a martial artist powered by The Red, could even seem to harm it. However, her attacks only agitated the Red Tornado-like core inside the Crimson Cloud.
The Justice League Red discovered that the original Red Tornado was being called through The Red, a mystical connection linking all living creatures in the DC Universe. Red Canary used this connection to reach him, reminding him of the beauty of life and the importance of humanity’s unpredictable spirit. This inspired Red Tornado to fight against the changes he’d undergone, allowing him to regain control of his body and become the classic hero once again.
