Paul Rudd and Jack Black teamed up for the first time in 2025, and their latest project is now at the top of the most popular streaming charts.
According to FlixPatrol, Anaconda is now the third most popular movie available to rent or buy on iTunes. It joined Snakehead and The Wild One, which both launched at the top two spots on the same day.
Tom Gormican directed the film, working from a script he co-wrote with Kevin Etten. The story follows Paul Rudd’s character, Ronald “Griff” Griffen Jr., and Thandiwe Newton’s Clair Simons, along with their friend, as they try to reignite their passion by recreating their favorite movie, the 1997 film Anaconda. They take out loans and travel to the Amazon rainforest to film their low-budget remake, only to discover a far greater challenge than they anticipated.
The cast of the new Anaconda includes Daniela Melchior, Selton Mello, Ione Skye, Ben Lawson, Rui Ricardo Diaz, John Billingsley, and Dan Silveira, alongside returning stars Ice Cube and Jennifer Lopez. Both Ice Cube and Jennifer Lopez appear as themselves in the remake, alongside Rudd, Black, and Newton.
Released in theaters on December 25th, the film earned over $128 million despite costing only $45 million to make. It was also well-received by audiences, currently holding a 76% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on feedback from over 1,000 viewers.
While audiences seemed to enjoy the recent Anaconda remake, critics were less impressed. As of today, the film has a ‘Rotten’ rating of just 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 150 reviews.
Where Will Audiences See the Stars of Anaconda Next?
Jack Black and Paul Rudd are both scheduled to star in several major movies in 2026, including two highly anticipated blockbusters. Black will reprise his role when the sequel to a popular video game is released in theaters on April 1st.
Jack Black is set to reprise his role in a new Jumanji film, a sequel to 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level. Photos from a November shoot featuring Black, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in costume suggest the film will continue the story of their in-game characters, with a planned release date of December 11th. Additionally, Black will appear in A Minecraft Movie 2, scheduled to come out on July 23, 2027.
Paul Rudd will appear alongside Nick Jonas in the upcoming musical comedy Power Ballad, directed and co-written by John Carney. The film, also co-written by Peter McDonald, centers on a rivalry between a rock star and a wedding singer, played by Rudd and Jonas, respectively. Jack Reynor, Havana Rose Liu, Sophie Vavasseur, Marcella Plunkett, and Peter McDonald will also star in the movie.
On December 18th, Paul Rudd will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Doomsday. He’ll reprise his role as Ant-Man, joining other popular Avengers like Chris Hemsworth and Anthony Mackie. Avengers: Doomsday will bring together beloved classic MCU actors with the casts of films like Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and several X-Men movies, creating a huge team-up.
