Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt’s Son Pax Makes Rare Appearance at Sundance

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt‘ son Pax Jolie-Pitt is ready for his close-up. Well, kind of.

On January 23rd, the 22-year-old happily posed for a photo with director Garrett Patten and producer Fernando Ferro at a Sundance Film Festival showing of Self Custody. This was a rare public appearance for the young individual.

Wearing a red flannel shirt over a black t-shirt and a large silver chain, Pax was seen talking with the directors of the drama film starring Adrian Grenier. He then went on to a party hosted by TBK Productions in Park City, Utah.

Just because Pax was seen at that event doesn’t mean he’s trying to become an actor. Actually, it’s likely the opposite is true.

Angelina Jolie shared at the 2025 Santa Barbara Film Festival that none of her six children – Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne – have a strong desire to be actors. According to People magazine, she said they simply aren’t interested in being on screen.

Instead, her kids are more into working behind the camera.

The Oscar winner explained that people in the entertainment industry dislike the focus on celebrity culture. They see it as unnatural and, frankly, a bit ridiculous.

Pax is currently working in the film industry. He was a still photographer on his mother’s films, First They Killed My Father (2017) and Maria (2024).

Oh my gosh, and it doesn’t stop there! His brother, Maddox, is actually a producer too – seriously talented runs in the family! And get this, his little sister Vivienne? She was a producer’s assistant on The Outsiders musical on Broadway! Can you believe it? I knew they were all destined for amazing things!

In 2023, Angelina told TopMob News that Viv reminds her of her mother, the late Marcheline Bertrand. She explained that, like her mom, Viv prefers to help and support other artists rather than seek the spotlight herself.

Pax is currently working in film. He was the still photographer on his mother’s films, First They Killed My Father (2017) and Maria (2024).

His brother, Maddox, has worked on several productions, and his sister, Vivienne, helped out as a producer’s assistant on the Broadway musical The Outsiders.

You know, people often ask me about who inspires me, and I recently shared that Viv reminds me so much of my mother, Marcheline. It’s not about needing to be the star, but about lifting up other artists and being a true support system – that’s what she always taught me, and it’s something I see in Viv too.

The Academy Award winner also mentioned that she is a very considerate and dedicated performer who puts a lot of effort into understanding her role and making a strong contribution.

For more about Angelina and Brad’s kids, read on.

Angelina Jolie first fell in love with Cambodia while filming the movie Tomb Raider in 2001. Later, she traveled to Battambang, a town in the Cambodian countryside, hoping to adopt a child.

She later told Vanity Fair that she didn’t feel a connection with any of her other children until she saw Maddox, born on August 5, 2001. He was lying in a box hanging from the ceiling, and she immediately felt a strong connection, saying she ‘cried and cried’.

As a mom, I know building a family can take many forms. I adopted my oldest son as a single parent, and when Brad and I started dating, he immediately stepped up and began the process to legally adopt him too. It was such a beautiful thing – he wanted to be a dad just as much as I wanted him to be a part of our growing family.

Maddox Jolie-Pitt became an executive producer on his mother Angelina Jolie’s 2017 film, First They Killed My Father, because of his interest in her work. The film is based on a book by Loung Ung, who experienced the Cambodian genocide under the Khmer Rouge. Maddox explained to People magazine that he wanted to contribute to the project in any way he could. He also described his mother as “fun, funny, and easy to work with,” adding, “She’s a wonder.”

Okay, so you won’t BELIEVE this! Our Maddox – yes, the Maddox – went to Yonsei University for biochemistry, and his mom was absolutely thrilled, which, honestly, makes perfect sense because he’s brilliant! But get this – in April 2023, he was at a state dinner at the White House! Can you even imagine?! President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden were hosting the South Korean President, Yoon Suk Yeol, and First Lady Kim Keon Hee, and Maddox was there! It’s just… incredible. I’m still freaking out!

As someone who’s spent years understanding the impact of early childhood, I was deeply moved hearing Angelina Jolie describe Pax’s beginnings. She shared that he spent the first three and a half years of his life in an orphanage near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and it really painted a picture of limited space and little to no personal freedom. Imagine being one of twenty children, all sharing a single room and a simple iron bed – it lacked the ability to make even the smallest choices for himself. It’s a powerful reminder of how crucial a nurturing environment is for a child’s development.

After joining Angelina Jolie’s family with Maddox, Zahara, and Shiloh, the boy quickly adapted to his new life. Jolie described him as thriving in a loving and open environment with his new siblings and parents. He’s learning English and, given his newfound freedom, is energetic and playful, though Jolie also notes he’s a remarkably resilient and strong little boy.

Pax had an early involvement in the film industry, fueled by a family connection. He voiced a character in Angelina Jolie’s Kung Fu Panda 3 in 2016 and worked as a set photographer on First They Killed My Father. In 2018, he accompanied his mother to the Golden Globes.

He assisted with the design of Atelier Jolie, a fashion and tailoring space opened by Angelina in New York City, and also worked as an assistant director on the set of her new movie, Without Blood, which was filmed in Italy.

Angelina explained to People that working with her sons, Pax and Maddox, felt natural because a good film set often feels like a family.

When Angelina visited an orphanage in Hawassa, Ethiopia, she brought her then-3-year-old son, Maddox, and introduced him to her eldest daughter, Zahara, who was born on January 8, 2005. Angelina later told Anderson Cooper that Maddox adored Zahara. Because Zahara was already seven months old when she came home, Maddox saw her a bit like a little sibling he could cuddle and observe.

Zahara, like her brothers and sisters, is fascinated by her mother’s work. She’s been involved in various aspects of it, from attending red carpet events to launching her own jewelry line, the Zahara Collection, with jeweler Robert Procop in 2019. She’s also joined her mother on trips to Syrian refugee camps to support her work with the UNHCR.

In August 2022, Angelina Jolie became emotional as she dropped her daughter Zahara off at Spelman College in Atlanta, jokingly hoping she could avoid tears in a video shared on Instagram. She later returned to campus to participate in the Historically Black College and University’s homecoming celebration.

Zahara became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at her school in 2023. She’s also traveled with the actress to Washington, D.C. several times, including when the actress gave an emotional speech in February 2022 urging the renewal of the Violence Against Women Act. A year later, Zahara was with her again as they spoke to legislators about supporting the Justice for All Reauthorization Act of 2022.

I was so thrilled when Angelina and Brad announced they were expecting, and then overjoyed when Shiloh finally arrived! She was born at a hospital in Swakopmund, Namibia on May 27, 2006. I remember reading an interview where Angelina described her as being full of light, love, and a real little sweetheart, with a funny side too! She even joked that Shiloh was going to be a bit of a handful, and that she already saw a lot of herself in her little girl.

Shiloh first appeared on the red carpet at the premiere of Unbroken in 2014. Since then, she’s joined her family at events for films like Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, The Breadwinner, and Dumbo. She also attended the 2018 National Board of Review Awards Gala and the 2021 premiere of Eternals, where she famously wore a gown previously worn by her mother.

Angelina Jolie loves seeing her kids borrow clothes from her closet. She told TopMob’s Daily Pop that she encourages them to wear things, even better than she does! She happily lets them have whatever they want and says, ‘It’s your turn!’ She embraces being that kind of mom.

Shiloh has not only shown support for Angelina’s charity work, but also appears to be exploring a career in entertainment, recently spending time at the Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles.

Shiloh Jolie, turning 18 in 2024, filed a legal request at a Los Angeles court to drop the ‘Pitt’ from her last name and legally be known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. According to a source at TopMob News, Shiloh independently hired and paid for her own lawyer to handle the process.

Angelina first showed off her baby bump at the 2008 Independent Spirit Awards. She then welcomed twins, Knox and Vivienne, in Nice, France, on July 12, 2008. After settling into their home, Château Miraval, she told People magazine that life was chaotic but wonderful. Shiloh and Zahara enjoyed helping with the twins, picking out their clothes and assisting with care.

Angelina pointed out that her son, Brad, shared many similarities with his grandfather, Hal Knox Hillhouse, both in personality and appearance. This resemblance was noticeable when they both attended the 2015 British motorcycle Grand Prix.

Following in the footsteps of her older children, Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh, Knox had a small voice acting role in the 2016 film Kung Fu Panda 3, playing the character Ku Ku. According to Angelina Jolie, the kids were hesitant at first. “They weren’t eager to be actors,” she explained to ET, “but I wanted them to experience it, and they ended up really enjoying themselves.”

Angelina described her twin brother, Knox, as being similar to their late mother, Marcheline Bertrand. She explained that Knox isn’t interested in being the center of attention, but instead focuses on helping other artists. He’s very considerate and dedicated to theater, always striving to learn how he can best contribute.

Despite a strong performance as a young Elle Fanning’s character, Aurora, in the 2014 film Maleficent – Angelina Jolie was impressed with her precision on set – the actress has since focused on work that happens behind the camera.

Angelina shared that her daughter, Vivienne, inspired her to work on bringing the movie The Outsiders to Broadway. Vivienne then volunteered to help her mom, who was the producer of the Tony-winning show.

Angelina said her daughter, Vivienne, keeps her on track. ‘She’ll point out if I’ve missed something, like a memo, and remind me what we need to do,’ Jolie explained to People. ‘She’s a very dedicated and serious assistant, and she really takes her job seriously.’
