Season 3 of Shrinking will explore Jimmy’s continued healing after his wife’s death. Meanwhile, Paul is struggling with his worsening Parkinson’s disease.

Season 3 of Shrinking will include appearances by several well-known actors. Jeff Daniels (from The Newsroom) will play Jimmy’s father. Michael J. Fox (Back to the Future) will star as Gerry, another patient with Parkinson’s disease that Paul meets at the doctor’s office, marking Fox’s return to acting after a five-year hiatus. Sherry Cola (Joy Ride), Isabella Gomez (One Day at a Time), and Candice Bergen (Murphy Brown), a five-time Emmy winner, will also guest star. Cobie Smulders, who previously worked with Jason Segel on How I Met Your Mother, will return as Sofia, the car salesperson Jimmy met, and will likely become a romantic interest for him this season.

Many viewers worried that Season 3 might be the end of Shrinking, especially since co-creator Bill Lawrence had planned three seasons for Ted Lasso (which will actually return in summer 2026). Hints from people involved with the show also suggested Shrinking might conclude after three seasons. However, Apple TV surprised everyone by renewing Shrinking for a fourth season right before Season 3 premiered. While we don’t know when Season 4 will arrive, it’s good news for fans who want to continue following Jimmy, Paul, Gaby, Liz, and the others.
