Carl Radke is celebrating more life with Chrissy Teigen.
The star of Summer House, who got sober in 2021, shared details about his relationship with the author of Cravings after she thanked him for supporting her own recent journey to sobriety.
He shared that he’s become friends with her over the past few years, connecting over her journey with sobriety and other life experiences. Speaking at a panel event in New York City on January 28th, he explained that he often tells her, ‘Recovery isn’t always a straight line. It’s okay to stumble and then get back on track—just be truthful with yourself.’
I truly believe the way I connected with her helped her open up and feel safe enough to share her thoughts with me. It meant a lot to me that she felt comfortable enough to do so.
Carl noted that Chrissy’s honesty about this could make a big difference.
You know, I truly believe she’s going to make a real difference in so many lives. What really strikes me about her journey is how relatable it is – it’s so grounded in everyday experiences, and that’s something a lot of us can connect with. It’s a reminder that incredible impact can come from very ordinary beginnings.
Chrissy, 40, shared a post on Instagram on January 27th, expressing her gratitude for Carl’s honesty about his path to sobriety. She mentioned that his recent interview on her podcast, Self-Conscious, happened around the same time he landed a significant career opportunity.

She shared on social media that she quit drinking the same week she spoke with Carl. She’d been in discussions about appearing on Star Search and was determined not to participate if she was chosen, unless she was sober. She stated there was ‘absolutely no way’ she’d have alcohol backstage with her if she made it onto the show.
After being sober for 52 days, Chrissy confidently stated she had no intention of drinking again.
She continued, explaining that she realized she could still be humorous, silly, and incredibly anxious—even without relying on something she used to depend on. She could handle everything, even feeling extremely worried, all on her own.
Chrissy and Carl are just a few of the many celebrities who have opened up about their struggles with substance use. Keep reading to hear more about their paths to recovery and what other stars have shared about getting sober.

In October 2018, the actor known for American Pie shared on Instagram that he had been sober for a year, marking the milestone with a positive and uplifting message.
Honestly, it feels like forever ago, over five years now, that I first had to try and get clean. I was just… drowning, completely overwhelmed by how consumed I was with drinking and drugs. It was just too much to carry. And let me tell you, I quickly learned… this is really hard. Like, unbelievably hard.
He shared that he’s been sober for a year, something he’s incredibly proud of after a difficult journey. He encouraged anyone struggling with addiction to seek help, reminding them there’s no shame in asking and that recovery is possible.
Looking back on his battle with addiction, he thought about how far he’d gone to keep it a secret.
He described a cycle where he’d go to therapy to address his issues, but then immediately after a productive session, he’d go buy a bottle of vodka, drink it, and drive home. He admitted on his wife Jenny Mollen’s All the Fails podcast in March 2024 that he used alcohol to escape his feelings and disconnect from his life.
He explained that he’d carefully planned how much he’d drink, wanting to stay coherent enough to talk to me. He mentioned he was constantly swapping out the bottles at the bar to control his intake.

The two-time World Cup-winning soccer player has publicly discussed using Adderall inappropriately while recovering from injuries during her time playing college soccer.
She shared on the 2025 podcast Question Everything with Danielle Robay that she had become seriously addicted to Adderall and was using it in a dangerous way. She explained she was taking it constantly, often going for days without sleep. It was a chaotic time, and she felt like she was pushing her body to the limit, even fearing a heart attack. She admitted to crushing and snorting the pills, acknowledging how harmful her behavior was.
However, in the midst of her struggle, her college coach Anson Dorrance was there to support her.
She described a difficult time where she had to adapt significantly. Anson encouraged her to read, and she found a life-changing book called Man’s Search for Meaning. It helped her understand and cope with suffering by changing her perspective.

In October 2025, Migos member Quavo revealed he had been sober from codeine—an opioid often used in the drink known as sizzurp—for four years. He credited a serious conversation with his teenage son, Jordan, as the turning point that led him to get clean.
Offset shared a story on the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer show about his son repeatedly asking for pineapple Fanta, even though he rarely drinks soda. What really struck Offset was when his son noticed the difference in the color of their drinks and asked why, which he found incredibly touching.
Offset explained that the seemingly harmless comment really bothered him, adding, “I almost cried when I went to my room.”
The rapper explained he felt guilty as a father. He was worried his son didn’t realize he was using drugs and that even small things, like his son wanting the same drink, felt like a bad influence. He feared he was inadvertently leading by example.

The Academy Award-winning actor has often openly discussed December 29, 1975, the date he stopped drinking.
In an October 2025 interview on The Interview podcast from the New York Times, he admitted he was driving drunk in California and completely blacked out. He had no idea where he was going until he realized the danger – he could have seriously hurt or killed someone, or even himself, which at the time he didn’t seem to care about. This moment, he said, made him recognize he had a problem with alcohol and was, in fact, an alcoholic.
With support from a friend, he started a journey of recovery. In December 2025, he celebrated 50 years of sobriety, sharing a message of hope for others who are struggling with addiction, just as he once did.
He urged people to embrace life in an Instagram message, repeating, “Life, life, life and more life.”

The Valley star shared his decades-long battle with drugs in March 2025 after going to rehab.
Jax revealed on the March 4th episode of Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast that he’s struggling with addiction, specifically with cocaine. He admitted it was difficult to talk about.
He explained that he’s struggled with this issue intermittently since he was 23, and now, at 45, it continues to come and go. He’d sometimes stop, but other times, it would become a major focus again.
Jax also stopped drinking, explaining that while he didn’t believe he had a serious alcohol issue, it was connected to his cocaine use. He couldn’t use cocaine without drinking, so he decided to quit both at the same time. He’s now been sober for 82 or 83 days – the longest stretch of sobriety he’s ever experienced.

Tom Holland, known for his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, quit drinking in 2022 because he felt controlled by alcohol. He admitted on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast that he was addicted, saying, “I was definitely addicted to alcohol, not shying away from that at all.” He believes even having a beer every day could indicate a problem.
The actor explained that you eventually realize a mistake after having one too many drinks. This usually results in a bad headache the next morning.
After changing his lifestyle, Holland found he was sleeping more soundly and coping with challenges more effectively.
He explained that he was much calmer and more able to handle problems on set. He felt mentally clear, healthier, and in better physical shape.

Sean Connery, known for his role in Hunt for Red October, rarely discusses his forty-year journey with sobriety.
He shared during a May 2024 podcast that he doesn’t often talk about his sobriety, only bringing it up when relevant. He’s been sober for 39 years, since February 23, 1985.
Alec described his early years in Los Angeles after leaving New York in 1983 as a period of intense struggle with cocaine use. He admitted to using a large amount of the drug daily, comparing it to how common coffee consumption was at the time and noting that it was widespread among his social circle.
And after quitting the drug, he soon turned to alcohol—only to also quit that dependency.
Today, he relies on the city around him.
You know, New York City is my happy place. It truly relaxes me. I find I’m constantly discovering new things, even in places I’ve walked by a hundred times. I’ll be strolling along and suddenly notice a detail on a building I never saw before – a unique doorway, a beautiful carving. And honestly, a big part of it is the simple joy of connecting with friends over lunch or a quick coffee. It’s those little moments that make the city so special for me.

In April 2024, Anne Hathaway, known for her role in The Princess Diaries, revealed she’s been sober for over five years. She told The New York Times that reaching this point felt like a significant achievement.
She explained her decision simply. “I realized I wasn’t happy with it,” she said. “It felt too much to even consider any part of it. It was like being allergic – if something causes a severe reaction, you don’t try to tolerate it. I finally stopped questioning my feelings and accepted that it wasn’t right for me.”
She’s glad she made the change. She explained, “For me, things are just better now. It stopped me from dwelling on negativity, and I really don’t like to do that.”

When accepting the 2018 Woman of the Year Award from the Peggy Albrecht Friendly House—a program helping women recover from addiction—Moore discussed how she almost lost her career due to harmful choices she made.
I think we all have key moments that define us and steer our lives. Early in my career, I was heading down a really destructive path. Even when I achieved success, I never felt satisfied or worthy. I had very little self-worth, and that quickly led to a crisis. At the time, I didn’t understand why, but it almost felt like something bigger was intervening.
In 2012, seeking help, Moore expressed gratitude to two strangers who gave her a much-needed wake-up call. She jokingly said they essentially told her she needed to get her life back on track or face the consequences. They gave her “a chance to change direction before I ruined everything.”
Moore reflected that others recognized potential in her that she hadn’t seen in herself. She expressed deep gratitude for their belief in her, saying she wouldn’t be where she was today without it.

Miley Cyrus revealed in 2022 that she’s been working to overcome her addiction to Xanax since 2020. She told Rolling Stone that recovery provided much-needed stability during a difficult time. “It gave me something to focus on and kept me from spiraling,” she explained, adding, “It gave me hope.”
The singer explained that once they discovered a way to briefly escape their pain, they were finished – meaning they’d reached a breaking point or given up on trying to cope.
She explained that her friends at the time didn’t discourage her drug use, and it quickly spiraled out of control, becoming a never-ending cycle. During the pandemic, she realized she was struggling and felt disconnected from her emotions. She remembers being constantly drowsy and falling asleep, unable to stay awake or keep her eyes open because of how deeply affected she was.
She eventually sought help and noted that “it took some time to get on my own two feet.”

In his 2025 documentary, Stans, Eminem opened up about his past struggles with prescription pills. He revealed that an overdose and missing his daughter Hailie Jade’s birthday were turning points that led him to change his life.
He explained that he became emotional realizing he was on the verge of repeating a past mistake. He described a harsh internal monologue, repeatedly asking himself if he wanted to lose out on this opportunity again, and urging himself to persevere, even if only for the sake of others. He used strong language, essentially telling himself not to be weak and to seize the moment.
Focusing on making music again played a key role in the Oscar winner’s recovery from addiction.
You know, it’s amazing how little moments can shift your perspective. I remember a time when simply turning on a light felt like a huge accomplishment, but more importantly, it was a turning point for me. I finally let go of any shame I felt about being sober. It sounds dramatic, but I started owning my sobriety – seeing it as a strength, a superpower even. I felt genuinely proud of myself for making that change and sticking with it. It’s about reframing things and celebrating your wins, no matter how small they seem.

The actor, known for their role in Parenthood, had been sober for 16 years when they experienced a relapse in 2020. This happened after a motorcycle accident led them to take Vicodin.
Okay, so, I’ve been totally hooked on these pills for, like, the past couple of months, I honestly lost track of exactly how long. I’m on them all day. And the best part? It’s totally legit! I have a prescription, which means I’m allowed to take a certain amount, but… I’m also taking more than that, you know, to really feel it. It’s amazing, honestly.
He admitted he was miserable and felt he had to stop, but his use was increasing rapidly. He was now taking eight pills a day, and worried about the severe withdrawal symptoms he knew would follow. He was also becoming increasingly scared and isolated, burdened by a huge secret he was keeping from everyone.

In 2018, the star of Halloween openly discussed her decade-long struggle with opioid addiction. It began in the late 1980s after a small cosmetic procedure to address puffy eyes, which led to a life-altering prescription. She told People magazine that she spent ten years stealing and deceiving others, all in secret. “No one knew,” she said. “No one.”
Curtis recalls the summer of 1998 as her lowest point. Her sister came to visit and brought prescription painkillers for a broken rib. Knowing the pills were in a guest room closet, Curtis took them all. Before her sister left, Curtis confessed in a note, admitting what she’d done. To her relief, her sister responded with love and concern, telling Curtis she didn’t want to see her self-destruct.
I remember when Jamie first shared her journey with us – it was February 3rd, 1999, at a meeting. She actually told her husband, Christopher Guest, right then and there, and she said he couldn’t believe he hadn’t seen it before. What’s truly amazing is that she’s maintained her sobriety ever since, and it’s so inspiring to witness.

Drew Barrymore, who has previously sought treatment for substance abuse, revealed in 2021 that she had reached a significant point in her recovery. Speaking on CBS Mornings, she shared that she hadn’t consumed alcohol in two and a half years, explaining that she realized it was no longer beneficial to her life.
It’s amazing how freeing and nerve-wracking it feels to finally share who you are, what you believe in, and everything you’ve achieved.
Drew Barrymore later told the Los Angeles Times she avoids calling herself “sober” because she doesn’t want to be seen as overly strict or judgmental.
In 2023, she explained that she used to tell herself, ‘I can learn this, I can solve this.’ But eventually, she came to the difficult conclusion that she hadn’t mastered it, and wouldn’t ever be able to.

Oh my god, I knew Bradley had a really tough time back in the early 2000s. I mean, I heard whispers about a cocaine addiction, but it was awful to think about! Apparently, it got so bad that his amazing friend, Will Arnett, had to actually talk to him about it. Can you imagine? Will just stepped in and confronted him, which, honestly, sounds like exactly what Bradley needed. I’m so grateful Will was there for him; it’s just… everything.
Cooper shared in a 2022 podcast interview that it was the first time he truly acknowledged his issues with drugs and alcohol, and the moment has stayed with him ever since.
Cooper said Arnett was instrumental in his decision to get sober, explaining that Arnett bravely confronted him, which ultimately led Cooper to change his life for the better.

Edward Norton credited Bradley Cooper with helping him overcome a long struggle with alcohol. Accepting an award from Cooper at the 2020 National Board of Review Awards, Norton shared that he’s been sober thanks to Cooper and has been happier every day since.

He expressed gratitude for overcoming addiction and substance dependency, saying that achieving sobriety, mental clarity, and a stronger spiritual connection feels incredibly good.

In 2018, the singer celebrated six years of being sober while on tour. However, she surprised her fans later that year with the release of her song “Sober,” in which she admitted to having relapsed.
It breaks my heart to hear her sing about struggling with sobriety. She’s pouring out her apologies to her parents, begging for their forgiveness for falling back into old habits – the drinks, the mess. It’s like she’s acknowledging a painful pattern, and she’s so sorry for letting down those who have always stood by her, the people who’ve been through this with her before. It’s raw and honest, and it really gets to me every time.
A month later, Lovato was hospitalized for a near-fatal overdose.
She shared on Instagram a couple of weeks ago that she’s always been open about her struggles with addiction. She explained that it’s an ongoing battle, not something that simply goes away. She needs time to focus on getting better and staying sober, and is grateful for all the support she’s received. She’s hopeful about the future and determined to continue her journey to full recovery, and promises to keep working towards it.

In 2018, she spoke about her struggles with sex and alcohol addiction. She explained that her addictions tended to shift over time, and when she was younger, she believed sex could solve any problem. She then described realizing she was developing a serious issue with drinking.
She recalled a low point when she was home alone and had already finished two bottles of wine, about to open a third. It was then she realized she might have a drinking problem, thinking, ‘Wait a minute – I’m all alone and on my third bottle? This isn’t good.’
I stopped completely, which I’m capable of doing. I tend to get really fixated on things, so I always have to be mindful of my habits. It’s not necessarily what you do, but how and why you do it. The underlying behavior is what matters. For example, enjoying a lot of sex is fine, but it’s important to understand the reasons behind it.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Apparently, AJ from the Backstreet Boys tried drugs for the very first time right before they filmed the ‘The Call’ video! He actually told Good Morning America that he was totally out of it during the whole shoot! It’s just…wow. But the best part? He got sober in 2021 after a tough time, and a year later he was doing AMAZING. Like, he lost 32 pounds in just seven months just by giving up alcohol and junk food! I’m so incredibly proud of him, it’s just amazing to see how far he’s come!
He told People magazine in July 2025 that he’s committed to staying on his current path. He described it as a daily effort, but said he’s finally taken advice from the recovery community, which has dramatically improved his life.
While AJ acknowledged he is “still learning, still growing,” he’s now confident in who he is.
I’ve been learning to set personal boundaries, something I never did before, and it’s been really helpful. I also understand now that ‘AJ’ is a public image or character I sometimes play, but it doesn’t change who I truly am – I’m Alexander James.

Oh my gosh, I was so shocked when Mac Miller passed away. It really hit me hard, and then Bow Wow – Shad Moss, I mean – he opened up on Twitter about his own struggles, and it was just…intense. He said he needed to get something off his chest, and he admitted he was completely addicted to lean – that cough syrup – when he was working on the ‘Face Off’ album with Omarion. Can you believe it? He said he was high every single day during that time! He even confessed he was on lean when he went off on Torae on BET! He said it totally changed his attitude, and his fans and family started turning on him. He’s right, he never glorified it in his music, but it was clearly taking over his life. He said he was sipping that stuff seven times a day during the UCP tour with Chris Brown! It got so bad he collapsed backstage in Cincinnati and woke up in the hospital going through withdrawals. He said the pain was unlike anything he’d ever felt, and he was freezing even in the summer, needing to wear three hoodies! He even missed shows in Chicago and Baltimore because he was high and sick. It’s crazy! He said he was doing it to be cool, and now he’s begging everyone to kick that habit. He wants everyone to be a good son or daughter, to be the best version of themselves. He says he’s going to be more vocal about it because we have to save the youth. He’s so right – parents need to watch their kids and talk to them. He almost died, you guys! He says his stomach will never be the same, and he’s been drug-free ever since. He’s saying we can’t lose anyone else, not one more person. He loves all his fans, all the young artists, and he wants us to break the cycle and not follow trends. It’s just…powerful, you know? He’s really trying to make a difference.

In 2018, the singer opened up about her struggles with addiction alongside the release of her album No Shame and her memoir, My Thoughts Exactly. She revealed she had been using cocaine and drinking heavily, describing herself as constantly intoxicated. Things came to a head when, after accidentally hitting Orlando Bloom with her head at Kate Hudson’s Halloween party and losing consciousness, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin organized an intervention to help her.
In an interview with The Guardian, she described a period of deep unhappiness, saying she felt nothing could bring her satisfaction. She recalled one morning considering heroin use, feeling it might be the only thing that could help because everything else had failed.

As someone who’s followed celebrity wellness for years, I remember when Lindsay Lohan really opened up about her struggles. She shared that she battled cocaine addiction throughout the 80s, eventually leading her to seek help in rehab in 1990. What struck me was how she explained the context of her youth – growing up in the 60s and 70s, there was a very different understanding and acceptance of drug use than there is today. It really highlights how much things have changed, and how important it is to remember the era someone came of age when discussing these issues.
He confessed that in the 1980s, he was using cocaine almost every day, to the point where it was impacting his finances. He described desperately pleading with God to help him stop, often right before work, only to find himself using again by the afternoon, rationalizing that things weren’t so bad.
He described a powerful experience, what he called seeing a white light, where he felt as if he was either dying or losing everything important in his life. He then had to explain this to his then-fiancée, Meg Ryan, and after that, he decided to get help. He says this marked the end of his struggle with cocaine.

Following an incident at a Newport Beach hotel where he attempted to break down his own door, Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte entered treatment for alcohol addiction in 2018. A representative for Lochte stated that he had been struggling with alcohol abuse for years, leading to a harmful cycle. Lochte recognized his need for professional help and began treatment immediately.
According to a recent statement, Ryan understands that overcoming this illness is crucial for his future – allowing him to make good choices, be a devoted husband and father, and pursue his dream of competing in his fifth Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.

Despite knowing you shouldn’t get sober for another person, actor Jason Ritter credits his relationship with Melanie Lynskey as a significant factor in his decision to stop drinking.
He realized how wonderful she was and believed she deserved someone truly special. Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show in March 2023, he admitted he didn’t feel up to the task, saying he felt ‘a little bit too crazy’ to be with her.
However, as Ritter noted to TopMob News, he now sees that sobriety is ultimately a personal choice.
He remembered that in the beginning of their relationship, it was simpler to justify his actions by saying he was doing them for her. He admitted he didn’t value himself much then and was more concerned with protecting her feelings than his own. At first, framing things as being ‘for her’ felt natural, but now he’s motivated by his own well-being.

The country singer has been sober for almost ten years, but achieving that wasn’t easy. His struggle with alcohol and painkillers started shortly after high school and continued even as his music career grew. He admitted to People magazine that he always kept a black leather laptop bag nearby, filled with bottles of Jagermeister or vodka. He described needing to drink every hour and a half to two hours, and taking pills every three to four hours.
Despite the challenges, it didn’t hinder his achievements. “I wasn’t falling apart,” he explained. “I was actually more productive then – I wrote more songs back then than I do today, and that’s what really frightened me.”
In late 2011, he was hospitalized with pancreatitis and warned that his life was in danger if he didn’t quit drinking. He admitted he kept delaying the inevitable, trying to cut back himself. “I’d tell myself, ‘Okay, just two pills today, and I’ll only drink this much,’ and I’d even mark the bottle to keep track,” he remembered. “It would work for a couple of days, but then someone would have a party and I’d start again.”
Eventually, Gilbert realized he needed help and checked into rehab on December 18, 2011. He explained, “I finally admitted I couldn’t overcome this on my own.” He was frustrated and ashamed, saying, “I’m usually very determined, but this was the one thing I just couldn’t control.”
