Hytale modders have recreated Call of Duty inside the Minecraft-like sandbox game a month after it launched on PC — and yes, a “Zombies” mode is in the works

Hytale is a brand new game, currently in early access, that looks similar to Minecraft and has some gameplay elements you might recognize. However, it’s not just a copy – it has its own unique way of playing.

The Hytale community has consistently surprised us with their creativity, finding innovative ways to play the game – like even getting Doom to run within it and trying out cross-play with older versions of Minecraft and Hytale.

Modders are now focusing on Call of Duty, bringing its gameplay – including iconic moves and shots – into Hytale. This demonstrates how powerful and adaptable Hytale’s tools are, particularly considering the game has only been out for under a month.

Call of Duty in Hytale

Hytale is constantly being updated and improved. Even though Call of Duty isn’t currently at its peak popularity, fans are still bringing the Call of Duty experience to Hytale through mods, recreating popular maps like Hijacked and others from Black Ops 2.

This mod transforms Hytale into a fast-paced first-person shooter, similar to Call of Duty, with quick deathmatch gameplay. It adds features like a kill feed and tracks player stats – including kills and deaths – to create a more authentic multiplayer shooter experience.

Even though it’s still being worked on, this isn’t the only way to enjoy a Call of Duty-like experience in Hytale. Another mod is being developed that lets players survive waves of enemies, similar to the Zombies mode.

Minecraft has long allowed players to create amazing experiences, and it’s exciting to see Hytale offering similar possibilities so soon after its release. The game has only been available for early access for under a month, which really shows how strong its core features already are. I bought it myself because I was impressed by that potential, and also to secure my preferred username.

Hytale is currently playable on PC and is still in early access. It works on Windows, Linux, and Mac computers. The developers plan to add support for the Steam Deck, but right now, the biggest issue for playing on handheld devices is the lack of controller support.
