WARNING: SPOILERS FOLLOW!

Wonder Man’s Origin of the MCU “Doorman Clause” Explained

The fourth episode of Wonder Man, titled “Doorman,” is a flashback that explains a significant part of the show’s backstory: a peculiar Hollywood practice known as the “Dooman Clause.”

So, it turns out “Doorman” is actually DeMarr Davis, played by Byron Bowers – he’s a doorman at a really popular club in Hollywood. One night, while taking out the trash, he found this weird black goo leaking from a Roxxon Corporation dumpster. Big mistake touching it! It pulled him into this dark, crazy world full of doorways. When he got back, he discovered he could use his body like a portal, letting things – or people – pass right through walls. He ended up becoming a hero when a fire broke out at the club. He used his powers to get people out through a blocked doorway! Then things got really wild. Josh Gad, the star of Frozen, who’s a regular at the club, found out DeMarr saved his life and wanted to repay him by offering him a job as his bodyguard.

With the help of Gad and other people looking for a quick win in Hollywood, DeMarr transitions from being a bodyguard to a famous celebrity, quickly becoming known as “Doorman” and using his special ability as his main appeal. He enjoys a brief but explosive period of success as a comedian and product spokesperson, but his popularity fades, and he becomes a washed-up joke. He soon falls into depression and struggles with substance abuse, seemingly headed for disaster, until Josh Gad steps in once more, offering him a chance to revive his career with a sequel to their successful film, Cash Grab.

A terrible accident happens on set: DeMarr, while intoxicated, attempts a teleportation stunt during an armored car heist scene with Gad, intending to pass through a wall to reach him. However, Gad vanishes inside DeMarr and is never found. As a result, the government heavily regulates Hollywood, implementing the “Doorman Clause” which requires extensive clearances and dramatically increased insurance for anyone with enhanced abilities who wants to work on a film.

Wonder Man Reveals The Danger of the Darkforce Dimension

In Marvel comics, Doorman gets his teleportation powers from a place called the Darkforce Dimension, and it looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe is following the same idea.

The Darkforce Dimension is a shadowy realm existing outside of many universes, acting as a connecting point between them. Characters with teleportation abilities, like Cloak and Dagger, utilize it for travel, and Nightcrawler once believed it was how he moved around. Beyond being a transit route, the Darkforce Dimension is inhabited by powerful beings, including the cosmic entity Oblivion and demons like the Predator and Devourer. It’s also the origin of Null Space and the creation of armored beings called Raptors, such as Darkhawk, who were born from the Tree of Shadows.

The Darkforce Dimensions is a truly terrible place to be trapped. Those lost within it are forced to endlessly relive their most frightening experiences and painful memories, ultimately driving them insane.

Many details about Doorman’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his link to the Darkforce Dimension remain unclear. Fans are already speculating about a possible connection between Doorman and The Sentry as he appears in Thunderbolts – their respective dimensions seem strikingly similar. This opens up possibilities involving other characters like Nightcrawler and Darkhawk, and even larger storylines like Avengers: Doomsday. Regardless, Josh Gad’s character is facing a grim destiny, and Doorman’s origins raise questions about what Roxxon has been doing and what other dangerous forces they might have unleashed.
