Currently trending actors Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa, who have collaborated previously, are now starring together in a hilarious new action comedy that’s sure to be a hit.
The new buddy cop comedy launched on Prime Video on January 28th and quickly became popular. According to FlixPatrol, it reached the number one spot in just one day, quickly taking over the top 10 with its debut, The Wrecking Crew.
The latest release quickly rose to number one in 40 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. It took the top spot from the film Ballerina, a John Wick spin-off, which had recently achieved the number one position globally.
Following the conclusion of their acclaimed science fiction show, See, after three seasons, Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa teamed up once more for Blue Beetle. The film was directed by Angel Manuel Soto and the screenplay was penned by Jonathan Tropper, known for his work on The Adam Project.
It took a while to get going, but The Wrecking Crew finally began production in October 2024. MGM secured the rights to the project in 2021 after winning a bidding competition with other studios. The initial idea came from a collaboration between writers Tropper, and actors Momoa and Bautista. Director David Leitch was originally set to helm the film, but he later chose to work on other projects.
It was worth the wait! The Wrecking Crew seems poised for major success. Not only did it launch at number one, but its positive reception suggests it could stay there for quite a while.
Just one day after it came out, The Wrecking Crew is getting very positive reviews from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have given it an 81% approval rating based on 31 reviews, while audiences agree with a 76% rating.
Okay, so the review pretty much says the story is a real weak point, and honestly, there’s nothing new or original about it at all. It just doesn’t bring anything fresh to the table, which is a bummer.
What Is The Wrecking Crew About?
In The Wrecking Crew, two long-separated half-brothers, Jonny and James, must work together when their father dies under strange circumstances. As they investigate, old family secrets come to light and their relationships are strained, revealing a dangerous conspiracy that threatens to destroy their family. Determined to find answers, they’re prepared to overcome any obstacle.
The film also stars Claes Bang, Temuera Morrison, Jacob Batalon, Frankie Adams, and Morena Baccarin, joining Bautista and Momoa in the cast.
