Netflix is known for cancelling shows after only a few seasons, though some series do last a while. It’s unusual for Netflix to renew a show early, but they’re doing just that with one of their biggest crime dramas.
Netflix has ordered a fifth season of The Lincoln Lawyer even before the fourth season begins streaming on February 4th. The new season will have 10 episodes and will be based on Resurrection Walk, the seventh book in Michael Connelly’s Lincoln Lawyer series, which the show is adapted from.
Netflix officially announced today that the new season of The Lincoln Lawyer will premiere on February 5th. Showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez shared that they are already working on a fifth season, calling season four Mickey Haller’s most challenging and personal journey yet, and expressing their excitement to continue the series.
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo stars as Mickey Haller, a role previously played by Matthew McConaughey in the 2011 movie. The TV series The Lincoln Lawyer also features Neve Campbell (known from Scream), Becki Newton (Ugly Betty), Jazz Raycole (My Wife and Kids), and Angus Sampson (Insidious). Joining for Season 4 are Emmanuelle Chriqui (Superman & Lois), Jason O’Mara (Fire Country), Javon Johnson (The Oval), and Cobie Smulders (from Marvel’s The Avengers).
What Will The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5 Be About?

Season 4 of The Lincoln Lawyer picks up right after the dramatic ending of Season 3, where Mickey Haller was arrested for murder. This new season, based on the book The Law of Innocence, will focus on Haller defending himself in court.
According to Humphrey, the show has evolved significantly. It began as a story about someone trying to recover from a major mistake, then shifted to exploring the consequences of past actions. Now, that character is facing enemies who are working together to destroy him. Season 4 essentially brings the story back to where it started, with the character once again needing to prove himself and make amends.
It’s certain Haller will resolve his legal issues, but the bigger question is how those experiences will change him. Humphrey stated they’re eager to show how this transformation affects Haller and his story moving forward.
In Resurrection Walk, defense attorney Mickey Haller finds himself taking on cases requested by people he doesn’t know – a significant change in his usual work. This particular case is massive, so he enlists the help of his half-brother, former LAPD detective Harry Bosch (who isn’t able to appear on screen due to existing rights with Amazon). Haller defends a woman accused of murdering her sheriff deputy husband, and who is facing a very quick and severe punishment. As Haller investigates, the case starts to seem suspicious, putting him at odds with the sheriff’s department and other powerful groups who are determined to quickly and quietly close the case, even if it means resorting to murder.
