**Warning: Contains spoilers for The Apprentice season 20**
The popular show, The Apprentice, kicked off its 20th season tonight on BBC One, and Lord Alan Sugar was as direct as ever.
The candidates started with a rigorous introduction and were immediately tested with a buying challenge in Hong Kong. This initial trial narrowed the field from 20 to 18 hopefuls, all competing to become the entrepreneur’s next business partner.
Once the teams returned from their first challenge, Lord Sugar followed his usual routine: he asked each project manager to bring forward two team members they felt hadn’t performed well. He then announced that two candidates would be fired.
Okay, so Nikki and Georgina didn’t make it very far in the competition, which is a real shame. But don’t worry, you can still hear their side of the story! They’re going to be chatting with Angela Scanlon on ‘The Apprentice: Unfinished Business’ over on BBC Two, giving us all the details about their experience and what happened when Lord Sugar fired them. I’m definitely tuning in – I always like to hear what the eliminated candidates think!

Scanlon explained that the contestants had just arrived in Hong Kong to kick off the series, before even having a chance to settle into their accommodations. He felt it was an unexpected and difficult situation for everyone involved.
After Nikki was eliminated, he seemed to focus his attention on Georgina. She’s always been incredibly kind and supportive – a true team player – and I was really disappointed to see her go.
Scanlon mentioned that Nikki, being a mother to young children, was eager to establish herself quickly. She believed her experience as a mortgage broker would make her a skilled negotiator.
She explained that the candidates spent so much time simply locating everything in the unfamiliar city that they didn’t have much chance to actually negotiate. It seemed like she had the necessary abilities, but wasn’t able to demonstrate them, which is often the most frustrating outcome for a job applicant – feeling capable of succeeding but not getting the opportunity.

He likely had some thoughts based on previous feedback from Tim and Karren, what he’d observed, and the overall results. However, in the end, he was really paying attention to how the candidates were behaving – whether they owned up to their mistakes and if their approach felt genuine. It definitely came as a surprise to everyone involved.
Next week on the show, the candidates will write and record a children’s story. However, one team’s attempt at funny potty humor results in a rather unpleasant plot.
The opposing team is attempting a unique story with a zebra theme, but internal conflicts could derail their progress.
You can watch The Apprentice: Unfinished Business on BBC Two and iPlayer starting Thursday, January 29th at 10:05pm. The audio will also be available on BBC Sounds.
