Looking for something funny to watch? Netflix has a huge selection of comedies, including both new shows like Happy Gilmore 2 and beloved classics such as A League of Their Own. February will bring even more options, with titles like Mississippi Grind, Mrs. Doubtfire, and You’ve Got Mail joining the lineup. But don’t wait too long – a popular action-comedy from the early 2000s will soon be leaving Netflix.
The popular 2000 film Charlie’s Angels, marking McG’s first time directing a feature film, will be leaving Netflix on February 1st. This action comedy is a modern update of the classic 1970s TV show, starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu as skilled detectives. They team up for a dangerous mission: rescuing a kidnapped tech expert and recovering stolen technology that could threaten people’s privacy, all while working for their unseen boss, Charlie.
Charlie’s Angels Is a High-Octane Action-Comedy Film That Holds Up
While Charlie’s Angels wasn’t a groundbreaking comedy and received mixed reviews – 61% from critics and 45% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes – it remains a fun and energetic film today. It’s a perfect dose of 2000s nostalgia, offering lighthearted humor and exciting action. Think of it as a blend of The Matrix and Spice World: stylish, over-the-top, and full of Y2K flair. But beyond the flashy stunts and aesthetics, it’s a genuinely empowering story about female friendship and capability, representing a welcome shift in action-comedy with strong female leads.
The cast is a huge part of what makes Charlie’s Angels so memorable. It boasts a fantastic lineup of stars, led by the three charismatic leading ladies who bring a lot of energy and fun to their roles. And the great performances don’t stop there – the movie also features Bill Murray, Crispin Glover, Tim Curry, Matt LeBlanc, and other well-known actors, making it a film that’s enjoyable simply for its impressive cast.
As a huge action movie fan, I really loved the Charlie’s Angels reboot – it’s honestly one of the best remakes out there. It was followed up with Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle in 2003, and even though people talked about making a third film, Charlie’s Angels 3 sadly never happened.
Where to Stream Charlie’s Angels After It Leaves Netflix?
You don’t have much time left to watch Charlie’s Angels on Netflix, but don’t worry – you’ll still be able to see it! Both Charlie’s Angels and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle are coming to Tubi, which is a free streaming service, on the same day Charlie’s Angels leaves Netflix. You can also rent or buy both movies online if you prefer.
