Bookish creator Mark Gatiss teases key revelation about Book’s past in “ambitious” season 2

As the second season of Bookish approaches, creator Mark Gatiss has hinted that the new episodes will explore Gabriel Book’s history in more detail.

I was completely shocked at the end of season two! The show, about that quirky bookstore owner who solves crimes, revealed that Book had feelings for Jack’s dad, Felix. It was a total surprise and really adds a new layer to everything!

Mark Gatiss has revealed that the second season will delve deeper into the history and events surrounding the characters’ relationship.

Mark Gatiss shared details about season 2 of TopMob Covers Party 2026, explaining that the first story will explore the world of spiritualism. The second will center around a murder investigation in a tailor shop, and the third will follow Book and Jack as they travel to Germany to uncover the truth about Jack’s father, Felix.

The actor also hinted at what viewers can expect in episodes 5 and 6, promising a deep dive into Book’s history with Felix. He explained that these episodes will reveal everything about their past – who Felix was, what happened to him, and the full story behind their connection.

The first season was a big hit with viewers, and Mark Gatiss has said he’s really enjoyed the opportunity to continue writing the show.

He described it as a project he was deeply enthusiastic about. He’d always been fascinated by the idea of a gay detective navigating a tough, post-war setting.

I’m a big fan of murder mysteries, and I’ve always dreamed of being a detective in a historical setting. The chance to tell many different stories through that lens is incredibly exciting.

Series 2 will feature some fantastic actors, including Miranda Richardson, Simon Callow, Claire Skinner, and Alan Corduner.

I’m absolutely loving the new season! It feels so much deeper and bolder than before. Now that we’ve really established the world and the neighborhood, they’re taking the story in some surprising directions – with crimes hitting closer to home, but in a way that still feels believable. They’ve really expanded the scope of things, and honestly, I can’t wait to see where it goes!

Recently released photos offer a first glimpse of season 2, which will bring back Polly Walker as Trottie Book, Connor Finch as Jack Blunt, Elliot Levey as Inspector Bliss, Blake Harrison as Sergeant Morris, Buket Kömür as Nora, and Nadia Albina as Dr. Calder.

Rosie Cavaliero, Gerard Horan, and Jonas Nay are returning for another season, and they’ll be joined by several familiar faces, including Rupert Graves, known for his role in ‘Sherlock’.

You can find the series ‘U&Alibi’ available for streaming on demand through Sky, Virgin, BT, and TalkTalk.
