MindsEye Developer Parting Ways With IO Interactive, Hitman Collaboration Cancelled – Rumor

Despite receiving largely negative reviews from both critics and players when it launched last year, the story of Build a Rocket Boy’s MindsEye continues. According to sources who spoke with Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming, the game’s developer is reportedly separating from its publisher, IO Interactive. Surprisingly, this decision is coming from the development team, not IO Interactive.

The studio seems to be aiming to handle publishing itself, wanting quicker decisions, easier communication, and more influence over how players experience their games. While the full impact of this change isn’t clear yet, it’s been reported that the planned team-up for the delayed Hitman project is now off the table.

Build a Rocket Boy seems to be prioritizing improvements to their MindsEye game and adding new features. However, there’s been no news about the large-scale adventure they planned for the Starstream Universe. We also haven’t heard anything about the founder Leslie Benzies’ original ten-year vision, which included multiplayer options and a completely new open-world game.

We should hear soon that the studio is separating from IO Interactive. Regarding MindsEye, a recent update took out free roam but reintroduced user-made missions through ARCADIA. Although there were significant layoffs – which the IWGB Game Workers union spoke out against – Build a Rocket Boy continues to pay for promotional content for the game, even though not many people are playing it.
