Death in Paradise is back for its fifteenth season on the BBC, and the detectives are facing a new set of puzzling mysteries.
Selwyn Patterson is back as commissioner, but now has to deal with the consequences of having been away.
According to an official description, he’s now committed to regaining the islanders’ trust, after receiving some honest advice from a longtime friend, Catherine Bordey.
With Darlene Curtis leaving the team, they’ve welcomed Sergeant Mattie Fletcher, who is expected to bring a fresh and dynamic energy.
But it’s not just workplace drama.
Mervin is looking forward to meeting his half-brother, Solomon, but the first encounter isn’t going as he expected.
Gilet explained that the two individuals are completely different. He described one, Mervin, and then another who seems to live a very different life – possibly even on the wrong side of the law. Mervin just can’t identify exactly what makes them so different.
He’s realizing his expectations for Solomon might not match reality. Daniel Ward delivers a fantastic performance in the role.
The new season features several new faces alongside the regular cast, and you might recognize some of them from other TV shows.

Don Warrington plays Commissioner Selwyn Patterson

Selwyn Patterson used to be a commissioner, but he was let go last season. The people in charge later admitted they made a mistake and offered him his job back, but he decided to stay retired. However, it’s possible he might decide to return in the future.
I’ve heard there’s been a bit of a fan uproar, as Don Warrington mentioned, about hints that his character might be leaving the show. It sounds like people are really worried!
It’s nice to hear, and I wouldn’t be truthful if I said it didn’t feel good. I was just surprised by how much people connected with the characters.
As a film and TV buff, I’m always curious about what else actors I love have been up to. Don Warrington, of course, is brilliant, and it’s easy to remember him as Philip from the classic sitcom Rising Damp. But he’s had such a long and varied career! I recall he was fantastic in Doctor Who too, appearing in ‘Rise of the Cybermen’ back in 2006. And, if you didn’t know, he even showed off his dancing skills on Strictly Come Dancing in 2008, partnered with Lilia Kopylova. He really has done it all!
Don Gilet plays DI Mervin Wilson

In season 15, Gilet explained that his character naturally clashes with others due to his personality and work style. This was evident last year with the tension between his character and Mervin’s team, who approached work differently. Both sides ultimately needed to gain each other’s respect and understanding.
He initially didn’t want to be stranded on the island and was hesitant to collaborate with the others due to his own problems. However, over time, he’s come to depend on them, and they’ve begun to work well together as a team.
Don Gilet is famous for his roles in shows like EastEnders, Holby City, and 55 Degrees North. He’s also appeared in Shetland, Sherwood, The Stranger, and The Loch, so you may recognize him from those as well.
Shantol Jackson plays DS Naomi Thomas

Detective Sergeant Naomi Thomas became a key part of the team when she joined in season 11. She and Mervin have developed a strong working relationship. According to Thomas, they understand each other well and have adjusted to working together. Mervin now trusts Naomi as a confidante and seeks her advice, much like he did with the Commissioner – he feels comfortable sharing things with her.
Shantol Jackson’s role in Death in Paradise helped launch her career, but she had already appeared in the film Yardie, starring Idris Elba, and played a leading role in the 2018 sports drama, Sprinter.
Élizabeth Bourgine plays Catherine Bordey

I’m totally fascinated by Catherine Bordey! She’s the mayor of the island, and she also runs a cool bar right on the beach. What really gets me is how complex she is – Bourgine said there’s always more to discover about her. I think what I love most is that she’s a strong, independent woman in her sixties, really fighting for what she believes in. It’s inspiring, and I think the show wants us to remember that it’s never too late to go after what you want, just like Catherine does.
Besides playing Jobert, Élizabeth Bourgine is a French actress with a long list of credits in French film and television. Some of her other roles include appearances in Private Lessons, A Heart in Winter, and My Best Friend.
Shaquille Ali-Yebuah plays Officer Sebastian Rose

Officer Sebastian Rose is a new addition to the team, first appearing in season 14. According to Ali-Yebuah, Seb has learned a great deal from his colleagues, Mervin, Naomi, and the Commissioner, incorporating those lessons into his approach to police work. He’s a quick learner who avoids repeating mistakes and is highly motivated to excel, solving problems in his own distinctive way. What once seemed like a distracting habit – his fidgetiness – is now proving to be a surprising strength.
Shaquille Ali-Yebuah has appeared in several shows and films, including the CBBC series Dixi, the comedy The First Team, the sci-fi drama The Feed, the superhero film iBoy, and the Channel 4 comedy I Hate You.
Catherine Garton plays Sergeant Mattie Fletcher

Sergeant Mattie Fletcher is the newest member of the Saint Marie PD. Actress Garton describes her character as action-oriented, endearing, and determined, though sometimes she pushes herself too hard. Mattie is driven to prove herself, which can sometimes backfire, but always comes from a good place. Viewers can expect a character with plenty of personality, facing both challenges and triumphs.
Besides her current role, Catherine Garton is also known for her work in The War Between the Land and the Sea.
Daniel Ward plays Solomon Clarke

Solomon Clarke is Mervin’s half-brother. The show’s description reveals that Mervin’s joy at finding a brother is quickly replaced by disappointment when he realizes they don’t have much in common.
Besides his current work, Daniel Ward has also appeared in Everything Now, Mood, and This Is Going to Hurt.

Death in Paradise former cast members
Ben Miller played Richard Poole

As a huge fan of ‘Death in Paradise’, I remember Richard Poole as the very first detective we met on the show. He was brilliant, a really skilled investigator… and it was a total shock when he was killed off at the beginning of season three! It definitely set the tone for the series – nobody is safe!
Ben Miller is famous for being one half of the comedy duo Armstrong and Miller with Alexander Armstrong. He’s also appeared in popular shows and films like Professor T, Bridgerton, Suspect, and Paddington.
Kris Marshall played Humphrey Goodman

Humphrey Goodman took over as the lead detective on the island of Saint Marie in season 3, replacing Poole. He was a quick and effective investigator who loved living there. He eventually left to build a life with his partner, Martha, and they now star in their own show called Beyond Paradise.
Besides his well-known roles, Kris Marshall has appeared in shows like My Family and Sanditon, as well as the film Love Actually.
Ardal O’Hanlon played Jack Mooney

Jack Mooney is one of the main detectives in the show, succeeding Goodman. He’s known as a kind and approachable inspector who initially planned a round-the-world trip with his girlfriend, Anna. However, he changed his plans to return to London and be closer to his daughter. Recently, Jack Mooney appeared in the spin-off series, Return to Paradise, which is set in Australia.
Besides being a successful stand-up comedian, Ardal O’Hanlon is known for his roles in popular shows like Father Ted, My Hero, Extraordinary, The Woman in the Wall, and Derry Girls.
Ralf Little played Neville Parker

Who is Neville Parker? Neville Parker followed on from Jack Mooney as the show’s lead detective.
During season 11, Neville developed a connection with a visitor named Sophie, but their romance quickly fell apart when it was revealed she was secretly seeking revenge for her sister’s death – a death Neville caused years earlier through an arrest. Though heartbroken, Neville didn’t leave immediately and remained on the show until season 13, eventually departing with Florence Cassell.
Before becoming known for his role in Death in Paradise starting in 2020, Ralf Little was famous for appearing in the comedies The Royle Family and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.
Joséphine Jobert played Florence Cassell

Florence Cassell was a detective sergeant who worked with Neville on the Saint Marie police force. They shared a complicated relationship – initially there was romantic tension, but Florence ultimately told him she only saw him as a friend. She left the island after uncovering a dangerous criminal and had to enter witness protection. Later, in season 13, she reappeared and seemed to have developed feelings for Neville. After exploring a potential romance again, they ultimately decided to travel the world together.
Besides her role on Death in Paradise, Joséphine Jobert has also acted in several French television series, such as Cut, Summer Crush, and Saint-Ex, nos années pension.
Tahj Miles played Marlon Pryce

Marlon Pryce started on ‘Death in Paradise’ as a small-time crook who targeted tourists. He later joined the police force. In season 13, his sister won a scholarship to a school in Jamaica, and when their mother couldn’t go with her, Marlon stepped in to accompany her instead.
Besides his recent role in Mr Loverman, Tahj Miles is also known for being a main cast member on Class Dismissed. He previously appeared in Mangrove, a film by Steve McQueen that was part of the Small Axe series on BBC One.
Ginny Holder played Darlene Curtis

Darlene Curtis first appeared in season 7 as a romantic interest for Dwayne Myers. She began as an administrative assistant at the police station and later became a police officer after completing her training.
According to Holder, she’s made an incredible transformation from trainee to outstanding officer. He also emphasized that her spirited personality is a valuable asset and something she should never lose.
Ginny Holder is famous for playing a role in Holby City. She’s also appeared in other popular TV shows like Doctors, DCI Banks, The Capture, and Ragdoll.
Sara Martins played Camille Bordey

Camille Bordey is a Detective Sergeant who worked with both Richard Poole and Humphrey Goodman. She’s Catherine’s daughter and left the island to go undercover in Paris.
Besides her recent work, Sara Martins has also been in several TV series in both the UK and France, such as Father Brown, Grand Hotel, The Coroner, and Those About to Die.
Danny John-Jules played Dwayne Myers

Dwayne Myers is a former police officer who worked at Honoré Police Station for many years, appearing in 57 episodes of the show. He had an intimate knowledge of the island of Saint Marie. He left the show once to care for his ailing father in London, briefly returned for a Christmas special in 2021, and then left again. He later returned and stayed until the 2024 Christmas episode, at which point he departed once more to spend time with his father.
Danny John-Jules is famous for his work on Red Dwarf, but he’s also appeared in other shows like the children’s series MI High and The Story Makers.
Tobi Bakare played JP Hooper

JP Hooper is a police sergeant and a close friend of Dwayne Myers. He’s always been dedicated to his work as an officer. Although he left to pursue another job, he returned for short periods in seasons 13 and at the start of season 14 to help solve a difficult case.
Besides his role in Home, Tobi Bakare is also known for appearing as Jamal in the first two Kingsman movies, as well as having recurring roles in the TV series The Tunnel and The Smoke.
Gary Carr played Fidel Best

Fidel Best began his career as a young, ambitious investigator, initially serving as an officer before earning a promotion to Sergeant. He was recognized for being highly organized and wanting to make a good impression. Later in his career, he worked in St. Lucia.
After leaving Death in Paradise in 2014, Gary Carr has starred in several notable projects. These include the series The Deuce, Genius, and Trigonometry, as well as four episodes of Downton Abbey. He’s also appeared in the films Bolden and 21 Bridges.
Aude Legastelois Bidé played Madeleine Dumas

Madeleine Dumas was a Detective Sergeant who partnered with Jack Mooney. She had spent most of her life in Paris before transferring to Saint Marie. She later returned to Paris after receiving a promotion.
Okay, so you’re wondering what else Aude Legastelois Bidé has been up to? Well, I’ve seen her pop up in episodes of both ‘Nox’ and ‘The Hookup Plan’. Not huge roles, but definitely recognizable if you’ve watched those shows!
Shyko Amos played Ruby Patterson

Ruby Patterson is a new police officer who joined the Honoré Police Station team after Dwayne Myers left. She’s also the niece of Commissioner Selwyn Patterson. Shortly after starting her career, she moved to Paris and decided to stay there long-term.
Aside from her role on Death in Paradise, Shyko Amos is also known for appearing in an episode of the 2018 series, A Very English Scandal.
