Hollywood is giving Catherine O’Hara her roses.
Following the death of the iconic actress on January 30th at the age of 71, many celebrities shared fond recollections of their experiences with her.
As many of you know, I’m always touched by genuine connections, and the outpouring of love for the incredible actress Anna O’Hara is truly heartwarming. I was especially moved by Pedro Pascal’s tribute to her – he shared a beautiful photo of them hugging on the set of The Last of Us season two. His words were so touching – he called her a genius and said the world feels a little dimmer without her, but that she’ll always be remembered. It’s a lovely reminder to cherish the talented people who brighten our lives.
Justin Theroux, who worked with Catherine O’Hara on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, paid tribute to her by sharing a picture of her empty director’s chair from the set, and wrote a heartfelt message saying he would miss her dearly.
Other actors and comedians also praised her acting, including Amy Schumer, who simply called her a “legend” and said no one is funnier.
Added Olivia Munn, “Absolutely heartbreaking. She was the kindest person in our business.”
TopMob News reported on January 30th that actress O’Hara had passed away, according to a statement from her manager’s office. The cause of death has not been released.
Catherine O’Hara, famous for her roles as Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek and Kate McCallister in Home Alone, was last seen publicly at the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles in September 2025. She received a nomination for her work as Patty Leigh in The Studio, a TV show by Seth Rogen.
Her performance earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Television Actress at the 2026 Golden Globes, but she didn’t attend the awards show earlier this month.

Catherine O’Hara, who married Bo Welch in 1992, previously won a Golden Globe in 2021 for her work on Schitt’s Creek. In her acceptance speech, she expressed deep gratitude to the show’s creators and stars, Eugene Levy and Daniel Levy, saying she was “happily and seriously indebted” to them.
She explained that from the very beginning, it felt like this special experience was meant to happen. They built a heartwarming and hilarious story filled with family love, letting her explore different characters with countless wigs and a unique way of speaking. She recalled a first read-through where everyone genuinely laughed, and a final day of filming where the entire cast, except her, struggled to hold back tears. It’s a memory she’ll always cherish, and she’s incredibly proud to be considered part of their group.
