God of War Confirms Three More Characters in the Cast (And It Brings Up a Big Question for Gamers)

With more casting news for the upcoming God of War series on Prime Video, an interesting trend is becoming clear. Many of the actors announced so far will be playing characters who don’t appear until the second game, God of War Ragnarok. While fans are thrilled to see who’s been cast as Thor, Odin, and others, this raises questions about how the show will adapt the game’s story. The latest casting announcements – revealing actors for some of Kratos’ key allies – are likely to fuel those questions even further.

The upcoming God of War series has added three more actors to its cast. Alastair Duncan will return as Mimir, a character he played in the video games. Joining him are Danny Woodburn as the dwarf blacksmith Brok, and Jeff Gulka as Brok’s brother, Sindri.

How Will Prime Video’s God of War Adapt the Games’ Stories?

With Ryan Hurst now confirmed as Kratos, the upcoming God of War series has assembled a cast featuring characters from the Norse mythology games. This allows the show to fully explore the vast world of the Nine Realms, but it will be fascinating to see how the creative team adapts the games for television. The first season will largely focus on the story from the 2018 God of War game, specifically Kratos and Atreus’ journey to scatter Faye’s ashes. However, the casting of characters like Sif, Thor, Heimdall, and Odin suggests the show will also diverge from the original game’s plot and introduce these figures in Season 1.

The first season of God of War will likely retell the story of the popular 2018 game, but with a wider scope. While the main plot will be familiar, the show will explore events from different characters’ viewpoints. Unlike the game, where you only play as Kratos, the series can show things from the perspectives of characters like Thor, Heimdall, and Odin. These characters might have smaller roles in Season 1, setting them up as major villains for a potential Season 2, which could be based on the Ragnarok storyline.

One idea for the God of War TV series is to combine elements from both Norse games, but that might feel hurried. While the games themselves are quite long, some viewers felt the story was compressed to fit into two installments instead of the three it deserved. Fortunately, Amazon has given the series multiple seasons, providing the writers with plenty of time to develop the plot and characters fully. This expanded format could even allow the show to surpass the games by exploring the Norse gods in greater detail and adding layers to their personalities.

Unless Amazon announces changes, scenes with Mimir, Brok, and Sindri in the first season will likely come directly from the 2018 God of War game. However, any scenes featuring the Norse gods themselves will be newly written for the show. Fans can be confident the series will be brought to life by a very skilled cast. After two games, Duncan is the only voice fans can imagine for Mimir—who will probably be a CGI character for much of the time—and Woodburn is perfectly cast as the rough and outspoken Brok. Their interactions with Gulka’s Sindri should be particularly fun to watch.
