Xbox Game Pass Just Added Some Classic Nintendo DS and Wii Games

Xbox Game Pass recently added a selection of classic games from the Nintendo DS and Wii. With fewer major new game releases lately, Microsoft has been focusing on bringing back beloved titles to keep subscribers happy. It’s unclear if this was a planned strategy, but it’s definitely bringing a wave of nostalgia to the service.

Xbox Game Pass has expanded its library of classic EA games, adding two titles originally released on Nintendo DS and Wii. These games, MySims and MySims Kingdom, were once exclusive to Nintendo consoles but have recently become available on other platforms, including Xbox Series X. Currently, they are playable through Xbox Game Pass, but only on PC and for subscribers to the Ultimate tier.

2007 and 2008 EA Games Return

If you haven’t played MySims before, it’s a spin-off of the popular The Sims series that first came out in 2007 for the Nintendo DS and Wii. While The Sims lets you control families and their homes, MySims is all about fixing up a neglected town, and it has a more cartoonish style. The game received a mediocre score of 68 on Metacritic when it was released, but it was a commercial success, selling four million copies. This led to a sequel, MySims Kingdom, the following year, which was essentially the same game but set in a medieval world. It received a similar response, and the series continued with four more releases, though the last one came out in 2010.

So, starting in 2024, they released both games together as one package. But honestly, don’t get too excited – they didn’t really remaster them, just kinda… moved them over to the new system. It’s not a huge visual upgrade or anything.

So, EA Play’s thrown in a few extras, and as a Game Pass Ultimate member, I’ve got permanent access to them – which is awesome! I’m a little bummed they’re PC only for now, but hopefully, that’ll change down the line. Honestly, I’m not sure if they’ll ever make it to the higher Game Pass tiers, and if they do, it probably won’t be soon.
