Hannah Dodd experienced the pinnacle of awkwardness while prepping for Bridgerton.
The actress who plays Francesca Bridgerton on the Netflix series talked about what it’s like when the cast reads through the scripts together. She described how awkward it was when they read scenes for the upcoming season where Francesca hesitantly asks her family about orgasms.
She admitted she blushed during the table read of certain scenes – she was really embarrassed! She explained she felt secondhand embarrassment, but also thought the writing was smart and enjoyable. Playing the character’s naiveté was a lot of fun, too, she told Will Marfuggi of TopMob News.
Dodd, age 30, immediately predicted it would be funny to watch Francesca attempt to explain what to expect during intimate moments with her mother, Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell), sister-in-law Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), and husband, John Stirling (Victor Alli).
Although many people dread having ‘the talk’ with their mothers, Beth Dodd said her scenes with co-star Gemmell were surprisingly hilarious. Dodd explained that Gemmell was so funny, she was constantly laughing uncontrollably.
Besides making the show funnier, Dodd pointed out that Francesca’s confusion actually has a deeper meaning and important role.
The show Bridgerton is smart to acknowledge that relationships aren’t always seamless, especially considering the context of the time. The women entering these marriages are often naive and unprepared, while the men are generally allowed to gain experience without open discussion. It’s important the show reflects this imbalance and lack of open communication.

According to Dodd, her character struggles to talk about intimacy with John Stirling because she doesn’t physically or emotionally understand what’s expected during those moments.
Oh my gosh, she said it’s so hard for her, especially because she’s shy, to even bring up what’s really bothering them! But she thinks it’s absolutely vital they finally talk things through. She says they already have this amazing foundation of love and respect, it’s just… the hard conversations are missing. And honestly? She believes tackling those issues will unlock everything about their relationship. It’s like, that one conversation represents their whole journey together, you know?

While filming, Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict Bridgerton, and Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise Bridgerton, passed the time by playing a clapping game.

Oh my goodness, you guys, I just saw the cutest pictures! Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington (and Eloise, of course!), and Claudia Jessie were totally beaming on set! It seriously looks like they’re super close in real life, and it makes my heart so happy! They just seem like the best of friends, and I’m living for it! It’s amazing to see their bond, especially since their characters have such a complex relationship. I’m already counting down the days until the next season just to see more of their chemistry!

While filming on a cold day, Hannah Dodd (who plays Francesca Bridgerton) had some fun making funny faces with Claudia.

Victor Alli, who plays John Stirling, recently revealed a humorous story from the set of Bridgerton season four.

Even when it rained during filming, the actors – including newcomers Yerin Ha as Sophie, Katie Leung as Lady Araminta Gun, Michelle Mao as Rosamund Li, and Isabella Wei as Posy Li – were prepared with umbrellas.

There were clearly no ruff moments behind the scenes.

The actors smiled for the cameras while staying warm on set, where they’re filming a romance between characters named Benedict and Sophie.
