It might seem far-fetched, but I believe DC Comics is hinting at a connection between a key Justice League hero and the villain Darkseid. Darkseid is a massive threat – truly the embodiment of tyranny – and has been central to DC’s plans since the start of the All In initiative. He reshaped the Absolute Universe and now, as shown in DC K.O., he’s poised to take control of the main DC Universe as well.
Over the past year, we’ve noticed Darkseid’s presence in titles like Justice League Unlimited. But what if a certain DC hero has been linked to Darkseid from the very beginning? Could they be unknowingly tapping into the same energy source that powers Darkseid’s devastating Omega Sanction? It might sound far-fetched, but I’m convinced a popular character in the Absolute Universe has a connection to Darkseid, and I have evidence to back it up.
Absolute Flash is Connected to Darkseid’s Energy Source

As a longtime Flash fan, I have to say this version of Wally West in Absolute Flash is really throwing me for a loop! It’s wild to see him without any connection to the Speed Force – the writer, Jeff Lemire, has made it clear that thing doesn’t even exist in this universe. Yet, somehow, Wally still gets super-speed after an accident. The really strange part? Instead of the usual lightning effects, he leaves behind these sharp, red lines when he runs. They look eerily similar to the energy beams Darkseid uses! I’m trying to convince myself it’s just a visual quirk, but it’s hard to ignore that this whole world is so heavily influenced by Darkseid. Is it a coincidence? I’m not so sure.
The Flash’s powers are a bit different now. He still has super-speed, but Wally West also experiences time loops and can see glimpses of the past, present, and future. This ability could be explained by the Omega energy, similar to what happened to Batman in Final Crisis, which can manipulate time. In Absolute Flash #5, Wally had a vision of a hand forming the DC Universe, but the All In Special revealed that hand actually belonged to Darkseid.
Let’s jump ahead to Absolute Flash #11. Wally finds himself stuck in the Still Point, the source of his powers. Barry Allen explains that the red energy within the Still Point existed from the very beginning – a detail that fits with how Darkseid created the Absolute Universe. Barry then reveals a black hole at the Still Point’s core, and Wally feels strangely drawn to it. As a fan of Grant Morrison’s work, it reminds me of how Batman villain Simon Hurt described himself as ‘the hole in things’.
Absolute Flash Being Connected to Darkseid is a Fitting Challenge for Wally West to Overcome

I admit, some of this might be a bit of a reach. Connecting the mysterious Still Point and Barry’s talk of gravity to the Still Force from the Absolute Universe feels unlikely to me. It just seems more logical that Wally somehow stumbled upon Darkseid’s power, considering this entire world is built around him. Why would he tap into a force that hasn’t been significant since the DC Rebirth era?
What makes the Absolute Universe so compelling is that its heroes are stripped of their usual strengths and forced to adapt. For example, Wally West doesn’t have the Speed Force, but he’s gained a different kind of power – one that’s tied to a major villain threatening the entire DC Universe. This series is really about overcoming incredible obstacles, and the idea that your power source is linked to the force corrupting everything feels like a particularly strong thematic element. It all seems to connect in a meaningful way.
I might be mistaken, and Jeff Lemire could have a different, even more compelling story planned for the Absolute Universe without involving Darkseid. However, based on what we know so far, it seems likely that Flash and Darkseid are connected. This would be a surprising and difficult obstacle for Flash to face. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about the source of Absolute Flash’s powers soon, but for now, I believe a connection to Darkseid is the most plausible explanation.
