Code Vein 2 Is Being Held Back By One Glaring Issue

Okay, so I’m a big fan of the first Code Vein, and I was really excited for the sequel. While a lot of the gameplay is actually better in Code Vein 2, there’s one major issue that’s really holding it back. Since it came out on January 29th, 2026, the Steam reviews have been pretty mixed, and most of us are agreeing on what the problem is. Honestly, if they can just fix this one thing, I think Code Vein 2 could really become the awesome action RPG we all know it can be.

Okay, so I’ve been playing Code Vein 2, and it’s definitely trying to do a lot. They’ve really leaned into the open-world thing and kept that tough-but-fair combat we loved in the first game, which is cool. But honestly, it’s not running as smoothly as other action RPGs that came out last year, like The First Berserker: Khazan. It feels like it’s asking a bit too much from your system, especially if you’re on PC. It’s a fun game, but the performance issues are definitely noticeable.

Code Vein 2 Launched On Steam This Week To Mixed Reviews Due To Poor Performance

Players have been frustrated with the poor performance of Code Vein 2, with many reporting frequent crashes during gameplay. Reviews describe the game as severely unoptimized, with some players feeling it was a waste of money due to how poorly it runs. Even those with powerful computers are experiencing issues like dropped frames and stuttering while trying to play.

Players have reported significant performance issues in Code Vein 2, particularly when loading new areas or during cutscenes. Certain parts of the game cause frame rates to drop dramatically, even on powerful systems, making gameplay nearly impossible at times. While the game isn’t unplayable overall, these noticeable dips in performance can be very disruptive, especially during key moments.

The refined combat in Code Vein 2, while inspired by the Souls series, is unfortunately hampered by performance problems. Some players have also noted that the combat feels less satisfying than in the first Code Vein. These issues are particularly damaging because players who request refunds for games like this rarely return to them, so the developers need to fix them quickly.

Solid Action RPG Systems Can’t Reach Their Full Potential Through Stuttering & Crashes

While Code Vein 2 looks fantastic thanks to its impressive graphics and action RPG gameplay, it demands a powerful computer to run well, which is a significant downside. The game seems to have launched prematurely, with numerous bugs and issues unresolved. Although future updates should fix some of these problems, it might be too late to save the initial impression.

A major cause of the performance problems in Code Vein 2 is the combat system. Players gain power by draining blood from enemies during fights, which allows them to use special skills. While customizable weapons and characters make combat interesting, and partners add even more abilities to the mix, all these effects happening at once significantly impact how the game runs.

As battles become more intense in Code Vein 2, the game’s performance issues become very noticeable. Stuttering, dropped frames, and visual glitches can be incredibly punishing, often leading to repeated deaths, especially during boss fights. Reports indicate that certain areas and enemies put a significant strain on the game’s performance, creating frustrating challenges for players.

Even with discounts, people won’t enjoy a game that crashes during crucial parts. It’s unfortunate, because when it runs smoothly, Code Vein 2’s action RPG features can be really good. The poor performance is not only hindering the game now, but also creating a negative first impression that might be hard to shake, even if the problems are fixed.
