The critically acclaimed fantasy series Pushing Daisies, which originally aired on ABC in 2007, may be returning for a third season after being canceled after two seasons. Created by Bryan Fuller, the show centers around Ned, a pie maker played by Lee Pace, who has the extraordinary ability to resurrect the dead. However, this gift comes with a dangerous catch: if he touches them again, they die permanently. And if he doesn’t touch them within a minute, someone nearby with a similar lifespan will die in their place.
Though it dealt with serious themes, Pushing Daisies was a wonderfully creative and funny show with a great cast, and it explored some surprisingly poignant and unsettling ideas. The story begins with Ned’s mother unexpectedly passing away, and Ned’s attempt to revive her inadvertently causes the death of his childhood crush, Chuck’s, father. However, there’s a catch: Ned’s mother briefly returns to life, shares a final moment with him, and then dies for good, leaving Ned deeply affected.
Pushing Daisies Was Never Appreciated As It Should Have Been

The show Pushing Daisies is a mystery centered around Ned, who teams up with private investigator Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) to solve murders. Ned has a unique ability: he can briefly bring dead people back to life to gather clues. They solve the cases and share the reward money. However, when Ned revives Chuck (Anna Friel), he falls in love with her, but a strange rule dictates they can never have physical contact – if they touch, she’ll die again.
The show aired for two seasons, totaling 22 episodes, before being canceled by ABC. It was celebrated for its clever humor and beautiful visuals, thanks to production designer Michael Fuller, who created a whimsical, fairy tale-like world. The actors were also fantastic, particularly Kristin Chenoweth, who gained recognition for her role as Olive Snook, a pie shop employee with a secret affection for Ned. Pushing Daisies received high praise from critics and viewers alike, earning a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 95% audience score.
Despite being a fan favorite and receiving critical acclaim – including 17 Emmy nominations and 7 wins – Pushing Daisies was canceled by ABC after its second season because not enough viewers were watching. Fortunately, there’s a possibility of good news for those who loved the show.
Pushing Daisies is Possibly Coming Back
Bryan Fuller recently told ComicBook he’s open to bringing back Pushing Daisies for another season. He revealed they have a plan for a third season, the original cast is eager to return, and they’re currently looking for a network or streamer to fund it. Many fans are hoping this beloved show will get another chance.
There’s a catch, though. Bryan Fuller needs financial backing from a network to revive any of his shows, and this often creates problems for him. While Hannibal was a notable success, running for three seasons and completing its intended story, Fuller has left other projects when networks didn’t support his creative goals. This happened with American Gods and Star Trek: Discovery, where he departed citing disagreements over creative direction and funding.
A revival of Pushing Daisies with the original cast after over 17 years would look quite different, simply because the actors have aged. Lee Pace, 30 during the original series, is now 46 and well-known for his roles in Marvel and The Hobbit. Kristin Chenoweth, now 57, has become a major Broadway performer. If anyone could make a comeback work, it’s creator Bryan Fuller, but he’d need significant funding to bring his creative vision to life.
