Comedy is incredibly difficult to get right, and that goes double for video games.

Once a player takes control, the game developer loses a lot of control over how jokes land. While many games include funny parts, these are typically in planned moments like cutscenes or specific events the game sets up.

Jazzpunk fills its brief spy adventure with tons of small jokes, funny visuals, and surprising conversations. This makes for a really odd game with a unique sense of humor, and it’s genuinely hilarious if you appreciate that style of comedy.

I only discovered this game about four years after everyone else, but I managed to avoid any spoilers, so all of its silly humor still felt new and surprising.

This game is an open-world adventure that takes place in a bizarre and dreamlike setting, heavily influenced by the style of parody comedies.

You’re a secret agent tasked with strange and unusual missions. You’ll need to finish specific goals to move forward in the story, but you’re also free to explore each area however you like.

It’s definitely worth your time, because you’ll find lots of little jokes and amusing moments throughout the experience.

It’s hard to explain what Jazzpunk is exactly without giving too much away, but if you’re looking for a game that’s completely and wonderfully ridiculous, full of absurd and funny scenes, then I definitely recommend checking it out.

If you look at the list of achievements separately, the game seems really bizarre. It asks you to do things like spray people with perfume, catch spiders in a restaurant, use a bidet, and put on a lot of lipstick – just to name a few!

This is a surprisingly easy platinum trophy. Currently, over half of all players (54.1%) have earned it, which is much higher than average for a PlayStation platinum.

This is likely because the trophies in the game are fairly easy to unlock, and the game itself can be completed in just a few hours.

This wasn’t a difficult task, but surprisingly, it took me a long time to complete. I actually started and stopped playing it several times over a couple of years – between 2016 and 2018 – so it took almost two years to finally finish.

It sounds like I wasn’t initially focused on earning all the trophies in the game, but that might have shifted during my last playthrough when I was close to completing the collection.

Jazzpunk is a rare find – a genuinely funny game. It successfully aims for comedy, which isn’t easy to pull off.

Cheers, Jazzpunk: Director’s Cut.
