Visual novels – games that emphasize story rather than complicated gameplay – have been around for years. However, Coffee Talk brought the genre to a wider audience when it came out in 2020. Since then, many excellent story-driven games with simple gameplay have followed. One example is Tavern Talk, a fantasy game released in 2024 inspired by Dungeons & Dragons, where you play as a bartender who gives out quests. Now, Gentle Troll Entertainment is preparing to launch another new game set in that same fantasy world.
Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker is a brand new game that serves as a prequel to the original. It quickly exceeded its funding goal on Kickstarter, reaching it within an hour of launching on January 27th. While the game is already fully funded, fans of Dungeons & Dragons and visual novels can still support the Kickstarter campaign and receive rewards until March 3rd at 4 PM Eastern Time.
Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker Is a New Immersive Visual Novel With Fantasy D&D Vibes

I’m so excited about this new game! If you liked Tavern Talk, you’ll love this – it’s still a fantasy world inspired by D&D, but with a really cool twist. Instead of being the adventurer, you’re the tavern owner! It’s not just about managing a business though. You get to listen to all the adventurers’ stories, piece together rumors to create awesome quests for them, and even mix magical drinks to give them a boost – and maybe steer them in the right direction! It sounds like you really get to shape their adventures.
According to the Kickstarter page, the game will take at least 6 hours to complete on your first playthrough. If you enjoy exploring every possibility, the branching story will likely extend your playtime. You can watch a gameplay trailer from Gentle Troll Entertainment below to get a feel for what Dreamwalker is like.
The upcoming game expands on the first one, improving how you mix drinks based on what players said in Tavern Talk. You’ll have even more ways to fulfill drink orders, and a new adorable creature will be there to watch! We’re also making quests easier to manage with a redesigned interface. You can already try out a playable demo of Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker on Steam, which helped generate a lot of excitement for the Kickstarter campaign.
With the successful funding of Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker, we’re now working towards exciting stretch goals! We’ve already unlocked some, like a lore page for the in-game journal and new D&D item cards based on the game’s drinks. As we reach more funding milestones, we plan to add even more features and rewards.
You can get a digital copy of Dreamwalker by supporting its Kickstarter campaign. A pledge of around $30 at the Novice level will get you a Steam code for the game and your name in the credits. There are also higher tiers available if you want to play the game early or receive extra goodies. If you’d simply like to help fund the project, you can make a smaller contribution as well.
Gentle Troll Entertainment is bringing Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker to PC, Mac, and Nintendo Switch. They’re also working to ensure the game plays well on the Steam Deck. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet, you can follow the game’s development on their Kickstarter page.
Hey, if you’re into visual novels like I am, come chat about them! I’m heading over to the ComicBook Forum now, and you should too – let’s talk games!
