This February, Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is launching a new manga series by a familiar creator, and they’ve just given fans a sneak peek. Shonen Jump started the year by unexpectedly ending two manga series, but this also created space for two new projects. The first of these debuted last week, and the second will be released this weekend.
I’m so excited! After Harukaze Mound finished up, Shonen Jump is launching a brand new series called Kinato’s Magic by Kento Amemiya on February 1st! And the best part? Viz Media is already bringing it over to English! They just gave us a sneak peek, and it looks amazing – the main character seems really laid-back, but he’s got this incredible power that’s going to kick off a totally unique magical adventure. You can check out the first look below – I can’t wait!
Kinato’s Magic First Look Revealed Ahead of Shonen Jump Debut

Kento Amemiya is back in Weekly Shonen Jump with a new manga called Kinato’s Magic, launching this weekend. Fans can read it on Viz Media’s digital Shonen Jump and Shueisha’s MangaPlus. This series marks Amemiya’s return after his previous manga, Shadow Eliminators, was cancelled in 2024 after only 19 chapters. Unfortunately, Shadow Eliminators didn’t have much time to find readers before its cancellation.
It’s common for manga artists to return to Shonen Jump with new series after previous attempts, but success isn’t guaranteed. We’ve already seen this with Yuka Kawaguchi’s Otr of the Flame and Togo Goto & Kento Matsuura’s Harukaze Mound – both were cancelled after their creators’ first series also ended early, and before reaching 30 chapters. Hopefully, Amemiya will have more success than those artists.
Does Kinato’s Magic Have a Chance?
Whether Kinato’s Magic will be popular remains to be seen, but it’s starting with a promising premise. Viz Media describes it as a story about a magic user who normally works as a chiropractor, but gets swept up in an adventure. It’s a unique concept for this magazine, which could be a good thing, but it also risks alienating readers if it doesn’t deliver what they expect.
Shueisha revealed plans for three new manga series launching this winter, and with two already announced, one more is on the way. To make room for the new series, another current one will be finishing up soon, so fans should stay tuned to see which series will be ending.
