The One Piece manga has returned, picking up the story on Elbaph Island after a long flashback that revealed the history of the island’s former king. Elbaph is now under attack by the God’s Knights, who are trying to kidnap the children of the giants in order to force the entire nation to become allies with the World Government. The situation is critical, and it seemed like the God’s Knights were winning, especially after Imu used a powerful attack to turn Dorry and Brogy into demons and make them fight for their side.
The story has reached a critical turning point. With Loki, the Straw Hat Pirates, and the New Giant Warrior Pirates returning from underground, the giants are now the biggest immediate threat to the World Government as a major war approaches. In Chapter 1172, titled “The Elbaph I Dreamed Of,” Elder Jarul boldly states his defiance against the God’s Knights and refuses to submit to the World Government. He references a prophecy by Harley, which predicts a coming global divide, and declares that Elbaph will actively oppose the World Government from now on.
One Piece Confirms the Giants as the First Force to Oppose the World Government in the Final War

Since the Harley Mural was shown, it’s become obvious that the story is leading to a huge war between several groups. The mural suggests this war will be between the Sun God and demons, and it now seems clear that the World Government is the main enemy, with Luffy as the Sun God. Imu’s powers and position confirm they are the demonic force driving the conflict. The mural also featured giants, and the latest chapter has now confirmed they will be allies of Luffy and his crew in this final war, solidifying their importance.
Looking back, the story arc centered on Elbaph has consistently shown the giants being mistreated by the World Government, even though they simply want to live peacefully alongside humans. This mistreatment has now reached a critical point, making the giants – led by Loki – the biggest immediate danger to the World Government. With the current conflict still ongoing, the emotional impact could grow even stronger, especially if Jarul were to die, further fueling the giants’ opposition to the World Government. Throughout this arc, the story has strongly suggested that One Piece is building towards a massive final war, and it’s rewarding to see the series clearly define the giants’ important and emotionally resonant role in that upcoming conflict.
