February is shaping up to be another difficult month for new manga series on Shonen Jump. Last month, the magazine and its digital platform, Shonen Jump+, cancelled a total of eight series – seven of which ended before their planned conclusion. This included some popular titles like Otr of the Flame and Harukaze Mound. Shonen Jump frequently cancels series that don’t attract a large readership or generate strong sales. And it seems February will continue this trend, as Shonen Jump+ has already announced the ending of its first series this month.
Hisaya Hashida’s manga, Lunatic Terrapop, will end with its 35th chapter on February 13th. Released in September 2024, this is Hashida’s first serialized work and has gained a loyal following thanks to its original sci-fi story. The news comes from the official Shonen Jump account on X (formerly Twitter). So far, 34 chapters have been published every two weeks, and they’re all available to read on the Manga Plus app. There’s no word yet on when translated book volumes will be released.
What Is Lunatic Terrapop About?

The story takes place in a world where strange creatures, called Cryptids, are known to be aliens and are handled as such. Seventeen-year-old Satsuki Moriyama had been dating someone for three months, but one date took a terrifying turn when her boyfriend, Sasaki, was suddenly pulled into a spaceship. Satsuki tried to hold onto him, and ended up being pulled along with him.
When she wakes up, she’s trapped on a spaceship and learns from two aliens that they need humans as a source of energy called Ajappers. They’re particularly interested in her boyfriend, Sasaki, because he’s unusually intelligent and has a massive amount of Ajappers – over 97,000, while most have 100 or less. Realizing the aliens won’t let Sasaki go, she offers to collect nearly 100,000 Ajappers from other aliens to secure his release. The aliens, skeptical she can succeed, give her one year to fulfill her promise before they return.
Satsuki is a natural athlete, so she easily handles weaker aliens. However, after five months of training, she’s still far from reaching her ultimate goal. The good news is, she’s getting stronger with each battle against tougher opponents. While trying to save the person she cares about, Satsuki attracts the attention of a strange pair who are intrigued by her abilities. The story follows her as she faces an incredibly difficult mission to rescue Sasaki and uncover the reasons behind the alien attacks.
