The upcoming Star Wars: Jedi 3 could be the best game in the series, even better than Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor, if it builds on what players already love. Both previous games offered exciting lightsaber battles and expansive worlds to discover, making them strong action-adventure titles. While the stories borrowed heavily from established Star Wars lore, their most compelling moments came from fresh, original ideas.
Currently, there’s no confirmed release date for Star Wars Jedi 3, but development is well underway following the 2023 launch of Jedi Survivor. We expect to see some kind of reveal this year, possibly starting with a cinematic trailer to announce the sequel. Hopefully, Jedi 3 will launch with much smoother performance than Jedi Survivor, which suffered from technical issues on various platforms for months after release.
Star Wars: Jedi 3 Should Continue Having Original Characters Over Nostalgic Cameos

I’m really loving the Star Wars: Jedi series, and I think a big part of why it’s so good is the characters. They’re not just interesting, but really well-developed and feel fresh. Cal Kestis, the main character, is a perfect example – he’s a survivor of Order 66, and his journey, both what he’s facing and what he’s feeling inside, is woven into every game. And it’s not just Cal! Characters like Merrin, Cere, and even Bode in Jedi Survivor are all so well-written and really add to the experience.
Unlike some recent Star Wars shows that heavily depend on bringing back familiar faces, the characters in these games largely avoid that trap. Too many cameos – like Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian or characters from the animated series The Clone Wars and Rebels appearing in live-action – can overshadow new creations. The huge popularity of Andor, which focuses almost entirely on original characters, proves that audiences are eager for fresh stories and perspectives within the Star Wars universe.
Both Star Wars: Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor rely heavily on familiar elements from the franchise. Darth Vader appears in both games, and Boba Fett makes a brief appearance in Jedi Survivor. Most of the enemies players face are from iconic Star Wars groups, like Imperial Stormtroopers and the droids seen in the prequel films.
While games like Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic are creating their own unique stories, the Star Wars: Jedi series continues to lean heavily on familiar elements. Cal Kestis and his companions consistently battle the Empire or enemies the Jedi have faced before, rather than exploring new parts of the Star Wars galaxy. Introducing fresh conflicts and characters could be more engaging than revisiting the same old storylines in each new game.
Entirely New Enemies & A Fresh Setting Will Help Jedi 3 Be Fully Separate From The Skywalker Saga

I believe the next Star Wars Jedi game should move away from the Skywalker Saga entirely, even ditching the Empire as a central threat. Beyond fan fatigue with the existing movie lore, the Star Wars universe offers many more compelling, independent stories. While acknowledging Cal Kestis’s backstory, the events of the current games are unique enough to build a fresh future for the series.
By the end of Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, Cal is left with complicated emotions on a distant planet. This new location could introduce fresh dangers, potentially beyond the usual Jedi and Sith battles we’ve seen in Star Wars. We might see Cal facing off against a criminal network completely separate from the Galactic Empire or Rebel Alliance – a type of enemy the series hasn’t explored before.
To truly make the next Star Wars game stand out, developers should focus on creating fresh and unique planets, enemies, and especially characters. While Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor have a good foundation, expanding on these elements could make the final game in the trilogy truly memorable. This focus on originality is what has always made Star Wars special, and it could be the key to creating the best Star Wars: Jedi 3 yet.
