Why Sister Wives’ Meri Feels “Betrayed” By Robyn in Catfishing Scandal

Meri Brown felt like there was something fishy going on with her former sister wife.

Over ten years after being tricked online while married to Kody Brown, Christine Brown now thinks Robyn Brown made the situation worse.

Meri shared on a TLC special that she felt hurt by Robyn. She explained that Robyn would ask her about problems, and Meri would open up. However, Meri felt betrayed because information she shared would then appear elsewhere, and she believed Robyn was involved in spreading it.

The woman, 55, began an online relationship in 2015 with someone she believed was a man named Sam. She claims that whenever she had a private conversation with Robyn, the person behind the fake profile would somehow learn about it.

She acknowledged there was a significant lack of trust. While she didn’t think the other person meant to cause her harm, she believed they were trying to improve things. Unfortunately, sharing information actually made the situation continually worse.

According to Meri, who finalized her divorce from Kody after 32 years of polygamous marriage in 2023, Robyn was supposedly talking to a friend who was also communicating with the person pretending to be someone else online.

For Robyn’s part, she denied Meri’s claims.

I was really looking out for her,” she explained to host Sukanya Krishnan. “I was watching the whole thing unfold and I was concerned for her well-being.

Kody, who is now only married to Robyn after separating from his former wives Janelle and Christine, admitted that Robyn had told him about the online impersonation. However, he wasn’t sure if she learned about it privately or simply saw it publicly online.

Despite Meri’s doubts about Robyn’s honesty, Kody, age 57, remained supportive of his wife. He even stated that Robyn has been the family’s guiding force for good ever since she became a part of it.

The Coyote Pass deal became complicated because the family hadn’t resolved issues from their time in Las Vegas.

After Meri sold her large house in Las Vegas, she gave the money to Robyn so she could buy a similar house in Arizona. Janelle also contributed to the purchase.

Meri explained that the people featured in the January 18th One-on-One special purchased a home which quickly increased in value when they sold it, and she expressed her happiness for them.

Which is when she and Janelle made clear that their loan wasn’t exactly on the house.

When it was time to sell their land in Arizona, Kody explained that several financial issues remained unresolved. Janelle and Meri had previously given him and Robyn money to help buy Robyn’s house, and Kody owned half of the proceeds from Meri’s former Las Vegas home. They wanted their share – 25 percent – of the Coyote Pass property, but Kody had invested additional funds into it. They also wanted to be reimbursed for the money they’d gifted for Robyn’s house, but he hadn’t received any compensation, and they were unable to reach an agreement.

Robyn mentioned they reached an agreement with Janelle. Janelle confirmed they had settled everything with her, but indicated Meri still had outstanding issues.

Despite the issues, Kody kept assuring Meri she would eventually be paid. He stated, “Meri will get her money. Everyone will get paid, but I’ll be upset because they spent the whole time criticizing me.”

Robyn and Meri, who used to be close, are still facing tension. When asked why she didn’t warn Meri that Kody and Janelle might be making plans without her, Robyn explained on a recent special that she didn’t want to go against Kody’s wishes.

Robyn explained that if she and Meri had maintained a good relationship, she might be willing to talk things through. However, because Meri has damaged their connection so much, and Robyn doesn’t understand why, she’s not open to it right now.

Robyn believed the core of the problem was that Meri was upset with her, but she had no idea why. Their friendship abruptly ended, and Robyn insisted she was clueless about what changed. According to Robyn, Meri became angry with Kody, and somehow, Robyn got caught in the crossfire.

Turns out even Kody said “I do” to seeing his former bride marry her now-husband in October 2023.

I actually watched their wedding, and honestly, it made me so happy! I couldn’t help but smile the whole time. Seeing Christine so genuinely happy felt amazing – like a real dream come true for her, and it was just fun to witness.

Oh my gosh, you guys, Janelle finally ditched Kody Brown – seriously, good riddance! And can we talk about how she’s basically copying Meri now? In the new season of Sister Wives, she admitted she’s doing what Meri did – just moving on and doing her own thing. It’s about time! I’ve been saying for years she deserved better than him, even with… well, you know… those arms. But seriously, go Janelle!

Though they were married for 29 years, Christine was never legally married to Kody. She explained on the show’s premiere that she’d considered a ‘spiritual divorce’ years ago but didn’t know it was possible. When Meri pursued one, Christine asked her who she needed to contact to do the same.

Janelle’s former sister wife—who had been released from their church because she felt abandoned—was glad to offer some information. Janelle explained, “She’s been helping me reconnect with everyone.”

Madison Brush is still dealing with the fallout from her father’s actions. She revealed on the September 28th episode of the show that she’s still finding it difficult to cope with her strained relationship with her dad, Kody, following their separation. She is one of six children Kody shares with Janelle, and the second oldest.

The mother of four admitted she hopes her husband’s father will be present, and that she desires a resolution to their issues. She acknowledged her own role in the conflict, but expressed frustration as she continues to work on managing her expectations and avoiding disappointment.

She’s having a hard time accepting him as he is. She explained that she’s working on understanding that he may not have known how to be there for her, and that he could be dealing with his own pain.

He also might not be willing to cede too much ground.

Kody expressed wanting to repair his relationships with Meri, Janelle, Christine Brown, and their kids, but feels it can only happen if they decide to pursue it. He believes they’ve reached a standstill because the possibility of healing depends entirely on their willingness to try.

Robyn Brown, Kody’s last remaining wife, says she always desired a family, not just a relationship with Kody himself. On the September 28th episode of the show, she shared that she’d received marriage proposals before – not necessarily formal proposals with a ring, but several men had told her they’d marry her quickly if she’d have them.

She consistently stated her intention to enter a plural marriage. She added that if Kody hadn’t already been married with three wives, she still would have been open to the idea with him.

Kody explained that, despite not planning to be exclusive, he and his partner had become a monogamous couple, playfully declaring, ‘It’s just you and me now.’

Though he admittedly had one concern.

Kody hinted to Robyn that he desired a more fulfilling intimate life. He later explained in a private interview that he believed polygamy offered him more satisfaction than a traditional, monogamous relationship, where he felt something was lacking.

Meri is actively dating and has a clear idea of what she wants in a partner. She’s looking for a tall man who loves to travel and, crucially, prefers dogs over cats, as she shared on a recent episode of the show.

And she definitely needs someone who won’t scare easily.

She described a difficult dating experience where a man ended their conversation as soon as he learned she practiced polygamy. He told her he wasn’t interested in continuing the conversation and wasn’t open to that lifestyle, which she found very hurtful. She felt rejected simply because of her beliefs about relationships.

Meri explained that it was the first time she truly understood that some people would be hesitant to even begin a conversation with her because of who she was.

You know, as someone who’s observed families navigating big life changes, I’ve seen this pattern a lot. It seems Janelle really felt like she was the only one genuinely invested in making Coyote Pass work. It was her dream, and she felt alone in that desire within her family – a surprisingly common feeling when pursuing something big!

On the October 3rd episode, Janelle revealed she wasn’t sure she ever truly envisioned the whole family living on their 14-acre Coyote Pass property, which they bought before moving to Flagstaff, Arizona in 2018.

Although Kody’s second wife thought the property was nice and could see herself living there, she believed his interest in it was just a temporary idea he and his other wives were going through.

She explained that no one was eager to live in that area, especially not Christine. Meri would have agreed to move if everyone else had, but they didn’t.

Janelle observed that Kody and Robyn’s former property, a two-acre home with five bedrooms that they recently sold for $1.7 million, felt unfinished despite being mostly built.

Janelle explained that despite all the arguing about dividing the land into four pieces, she quickly realized after moving to Flagstaff that it wouldn’t work out.

Kody believes he knows why his relationships with most of his adult children – excluding Robyn’s oldest, Dayton, and her daughters Aurora and Breanna – aren’t very good.

He admitted on October 5th that he and his adult children have a difficult relationship. He explained that constant teasing and subtle jabs have created problems with trust and loyalty for everyone involved.

And these days, not many of his grown kids are on Team Kody.

Even though Mykelti Padron, one of Christine’s six children, had seemed the most publicly supportive of her father, she shared her thoughts on the family split several months after she, her husband Tony Padron, and their three children moved to North Carolina.

She believes that if he simply took responsibility for his actions, at least some of his children might try to reconnect with him. She explained in an October 2024 fan Q&A on Instagram (@withoutacrystalball) that instead of blaming his children, his other wife, or outside influences, a simple apology and willingness to discuss his mistakes – like saying, ‘I understand I messed up. I’m sorry. Can we talk?’ – could make a huge difference.

As a long-time follower, it was really significant to see Janelle and Meri finally finalize their split from Kody. The sale of Coyote Pass in April 2025 felt like a clean break, and they each got a good financial outcome from it. It’s worth remembering that Christine had already made a similar deal earlier – she gave up her share of the land but got to keep the money from selling her house in Arizona. It all felt like everyone was starting to move on with their lives.

Oh my gosh, did you hear what Janelle said to Meri? It was brutal, but honestly, so perfect! She was all smiles, but the shade was real. It was basically her saying, ‘Bye, Meri! And don’t even think about coming back!’ I’ve replayed that moment like a million times – it was just… iconic.

But she certainly wouldn’t have waved off an even nicer present.

If she had been legally married to Kody, she said she would have rightfully taken half of his possessions, as they would have been considered hers as well.

Kody and Robyn had to review the paperwork for their new $2.1 million home before they could give up on their plans for Coyote Pass. Kody explained on the October 12th episode that after months of discussions with his former wives about selling the large property, they finally moved forward with the sale because they’d found a different house they preferred.

The father of 18 children is also looking forward to leaving behind the painful memories associated with their old house. He explained, “We’ve gone through a lot of difficult times here, and we’re hoping for a fresh start, a completely new chapter in our lives.”

Kody believed that loving multiple wives should mean his affection simply expanded, but in reality, he didn’t divide his attention equally among them. As he explained on the October 19th episode of the show, he found it difficult to fully commit to each wife individually, and felt they didn’t always fully commit to him or to each other either. He reasoned that devotion wasn’t always mutual or complete within the family.

He believes one of his mistakes was giving Robyn a lavish lifestyle – a $1.65 million, five-bedroom house – while his other wives had more modest living arrangements. Reflecting on the end of his marriages to Meri, Janelle, and Christine, he said he doesn’t understand what went wrong, but admits he created jealousy by going to great lengths to provide Robyn with a secure and comfortable home. He felt his other wives struggled with his willingness to fight so hard for Robyn’s well-being.

Christine found it difficult to relax around Kody. As she explained on the October 26th episode, he required a lot of attention and had many specific needs, including particular dietary preferences and strict grooming habits.

Bottom line, she noted, “It was a lot.”

Janelle isn’t eager to jump into another relationship following her breakup with Kody. She admitted to Christine and her husband, David Woolley, that Kody was demanding, and she believes relationships in general require a lot of effort.

She’s really pushing back against David’s suggestion that she join FarmersOnly. In a conversation with the show’s cameras, she explained, ‘David just doesn’t understand that I’m not interested in dating right now. I keep telling him, ‘No, no, no!”

Kody generally made an effort to remember each wife’s name, and rarely mixed them up. As Christine explained on the November 2nd episode, there were times when hearing another wife’s name would have been particularly hurtful, but he avoided those mistakes entirely. “Never happened,” she said.

Though there were some close calls.

I’ve definitely noticed a pattern with Kody over the years. He’d often start arguments, and I’d see him do this a lot, but then he’d quickly change the subject or shift the blame – almost like he’d intentionally stir things up and then try to avoid taking responsibility. He even admitted to doing this himself!

To hear Christine tell it, she felt quite stabbed in the kidney by her former sister wife.

She told David on the November 2nd episode that she felt deeply betrayed by Robyn, explaining she’d lost all trust in her. She shared that she used to confide in Robyn, but would then face consequences and Kody’s anger as a result. This led her to stop sharing personal information with Robyn altogether.

But Robyn insisted she was just trying to play marriage counselor.

Christine often told me she wished Kody understood what she was going through, explaining she was really struggling. I was a bit naive and thought I could fix things by helping, but looking back, I should have just let it be.

Meri used to be flattered by Kody treating her like his favorite ex-wife, but when he tried to chat about selling their house in Arizona, she wasn’t interested in being friendly.

He recalled helping Meri move to Parowan, Utah, saying it was a pleasant and friendly experience. However, he noted that their relationship has become strained and awkward since then, as they discussed on the November 2nd episode.

Meri maintained she was only interested in business, not a romantic relationship, especially after hearing Kody’s comments from past seasons.

I had to be firm and set clear limits with him,” she said. “It’s frustrating when he acts friendly on video calls and pretends everything is okay after some of the hurtful things he’s said about me and my friends – I won’t tolerate that behavior.

Christine happily accepted her now-husband David’s proposal last year, but her ex-spouse believes he should have been consulted beforehand.

Kody explained that his youngest daughter, Truely, lives with David, and he feels he should get to know him better.

In fact, he mused, he “should have had the right, even, to discriminate David.”

Janelle was happy to get her part of Coyote Pass back and wasn’t upset about the money she’d already given Robyn and Kody towards their house in Arizona.

She explained on the November 2nd episode that her children think she should try to recover the money she invested in Robyn’s house, but she anticipates a difficult legal battle to do so.

She explained that trying to get money from Kody is difficult, because he always has a long list of excuses for why he doesn’t owe it.

Okay, so he seriously thinks he’s done with Janelle? It’s driving me crazy! He kept saying how Janelle helped them with the house, and he claims he paid her back way back in January. He even quoted her – he said after January or February, she literally told him, ‘We’re even, you owe me nothing!’ Like, she said it was more than fair and he’s good! I just… I can’t believe he’s acting like this after everything! It’s infuriating!

Should Kody still be interested in having his love multiplied, there’s no shortage of options.

He told Robyn on November 2nd that he’d received another email from a woman inquiring about plural marriage.

He told Robyn that his former wife was upset with his decision to end their plural marriage. Then, surprisingly, she offered to become part of their family – essentially asking if she could join him and Robyn. He felt like she was both criticizing him and applying to be another wife.

Robyn didn’t immediately reject the idea. She later confessed that for a moment, she wondered if it could actually be what she’d always dreamed of, and if it would be a good fit.

Ultimately, though, it was a no.

She was upset they contacted Kody directly. She believes it’s generally considered inappropriate to pursue a man without going through his wives first.

Kody admits his strained relationship with his child is a major family issue, but he needs to make significant improvements if he wants to repair things.

On the November 9th episode of the show, Janelle revealed that Maddie didn’t tell her father, Kody, about her fourth pregnancy. Janelle added that there was no need to inform him beforehand, as they hadn’t spoken in two or three years. She stated he would find out eventually.

Oh my gosh, it’s just… Janelle didn’t just want Kody, she wanted all of us, the whole family! Meri said on the show that when Janelle married Kody – three years after Meri did, and after she was briefly married to Meri’s brother can you believe it?! – she actually tried to be sensitive about it. Meri said Janelle acted like she was really trying to include her and not upset her feelings. It’s just… so complicated, and honestly, a little heartbreaking to think about how she navigated all that. I’ve rewatched that episode like ten times trying to understand it all!

Meri admitted that she felt jealous and confused when they first started exploring plural marriage. Despite the difficult emotions, she also felt flattered that her wife was willing to work through it with her.

Meri is known for speaking her mind, but things became difficult when her family agreed to sell Coyote Pass – the 14-acre property they bought after relocating to Arizona.

Okay, so I was listening to Meri, and honestly, it all comes down to paperwork! She was saying on the show that the big problem was just getting everyone’s names on the property deeds, you know? Like, it shouldn’t have been this huge drama, she kept saying she didn’t understand why it couldn’t just be signed! It’s so frustrating to hear, I just want everything to be settled for them!

She was also puzzled by another of Kody’s moves.

She explained, clearly upset, that he was blaming her for the delays and claiming she was the reason things weren’t moving forward. She said this was because they wanted her to sign a confidentiality agreement she wasn’t comfortable with, and she questioned why they were trying to prevent her from speaking openly about it.

To hear Robyn tell it, though, their discussions were nothing to howl about.

We’ve always been able to talk openly with each other,” she said. “I was simply trying to understand what she needed, and I always want what’s best for her.

Christine says having more money has actually made life easier. As a mother of six, she vividly remembers the stress of not having enough money for even basic groceries.

She explained that it’s really awkward when you get to the register and realize you’ve spent more money than you have. You might be able to pay with a check, but it would likely bounce, forcing you to return some items.

Other times they had to walk back plans to pay for certain essentials.

Meri explained that they used to have regular meetings – either weekly or monthly – to decide which bill was the most urgent to pay.

Robyn was determined to ensure everyone received a fair share when it came time to sell Coyote Pass. On the November 23rd episode, she explained that she insisted Kody, Janelle, Meri, and herself each receive a quarter of the profits, and she wasn’t afraid to argue with Kody to make it happen. “I fought him. I had some pretty big fights with him about it,” she said, emphasizing her commitment to fairness.

Ultimately, Kody explained that when the 14-acre property was sold in April 2025, they decided to simply divide the proceeds equally – giving each person 25 percent.

Janelle didn’t directly say Kody had a mid-life crisis, but she explained in a recent episode that his behavior changed significantly after he turned a major age.

By the time Kody turned 50, he was married to his fourth wife, Robyn, and began complaining about the burden of supporting the entire family. Janelle explained that he seemed to believe Robyn was his true soulmate and that keeping up four marriages had become too draining for him.

But Kody took issue with the idea that he didn’t put in the work.

He firmly stated that he’d always fulfilled his duties within the family. He felt he consistently went above and beyond, but didn’t receive the same level of commitment in return from other family members.

He joked that dealing with his three divorces felt like everyone was going through menopause at the same time. He explained it by saying men can experience hormonal changes too, and he likely lost motivation because his testosterone levels dropped, making it difficult to stay engaged.

When Janelle Brown’s mother, Sheryl Usher, discovered her daughter was interested in plural marriage, she initially tried to dissuade her, fearing a dangerous cult. As Janelle explained, her mom “came to save me from the polygamists.” However, in a surprising turn of events, Sheryl herself ended up marrying Kody Brown’s father, Winn Brown, just three months before Janelle and Kody tied the knot.

Their marriage definitely made the family relationships more complex. Janelle admitted she initially wondered how to explain it, but she accepted it. “It felt strange at first,” she said, “but I realized it was good to have another person on my side.”

Ysabel Brown says she wishes she’d had more one-on-one time with her father, Kody. On a recent episode of the show, she explained that she and her dad aren’t particularly close.

Ysabel explained that her mom is wonderfully capable of being both a mother and a father, and she does both roles perfectly. She also thinks her stepdad, David, is fantastic.

Despite everything, Ysabel didn’t want to say her relationship with Kody was broken. “He’s still my dad, and I love him,” she explained.

Though Janelle still feels the family had something special, that spark wasn’t apparent early on.

Janelle felt hurt that her ex-husband, Meri, often sided against her, particularly early in their relationship. Combined with existing issues of jealousy and insecurity they were trying to resolve, this created a difficult dynamic for them both.

Janelle Brown became pregnant with her first child, Logan, less than a year after marrying Kody, and at a time when he was frequently away for work. She remembers this meant she focused on avoiding conflict and, as a result, felt she lost touch with who she was.

If Kody wants to have a good relationship with Meri after their split, he needs to get along with her friends. He helped her move after they separated, hoping they could remain amicable – he explained on a recent show that they agreed to be kind to each other. However, he was upset to find her friends were publicly criticizing him shortly after.

He explained that he confronted her aggressively over the phone, telling her to make her friends stop talking. He admitted to scolding her friends, and believes she was deeply hurt by it.

Kody explained that conversations quickly become heated and difficult for them. “We tend to escalate things to the point where we can’t even talk, and it happens so fast,” he said. “We never learned how to handle that during our marriage, so if we want to have any kind of relationship going forward, we absolutely have to learn to manage it now.”

Okay, so Christine and Kody are done as a couple, but honestly, it’s still a family situation! I was totally shocked when she revealed on the show that they’re actually related! Like, third cousins once removed, which is totally a legitimate thing, apparently. She said she’s third cousins once removed from Kody! Can you believe it? It just makes everything…so much more complicated, and honestly, a little bit wild!

Janelle explained that discovering a distant family connection became a running joke. However, the connection was so remote it was almost absurd. She believes this happens frequently within polygamous communities. It wasn’t a close relationship where they’d see each other at gatherings; it was very distant. Still, they always playfully referred to each other as cousins, a testament to how small the community was.
