Okay, folks, get ready for this – Meryl Streep is officially going to be Joni Mitchell in a new biopic! Cameron Crowe is directing, and honestly, I can’t think of anyone better suited to capture the spirit of such an iconic singer-songwriter. This is huge news, and I’m already anticipating a powerhouse performance from Streep.
Record producer Clive Davis revealed the news at a party before the Grammy Awards, which Joni Mitchell attended. Cameron Crowe later verified the information to Rolling Stone magazine.
For years, there have been whispers that Meryl Streep would star in this film project. Anya Taylor-Joy was also previously said to be involved, potentially as a younger version of the character Mitchell, but that hasn’t been officially confirmed.
The movie’s specific focus on Joni Mitchell’s life and career is still unknown. However, director Cameron Crowe, famous for films like Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous, has been a close friend of Mitchell’s for many years.

Crowe and the subject first connected in 1979 when he interviewed her for a music publication he worked for. The film is being made with her full involvement and support.
Crowe said they’ve been developing the project for roughly four years, during an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last October.

He also mentioned that Mitchell still owned all of her stage outfits, clothing, and musical instruments, and continued to rent out her well-known house in Laurel Canyon.
“So this is a really personal, wonderful look at her life and music,” he said.
As a huge Meryl Streep fan, I’m really excited about her upcoming role. It seems she’s continuing her tradition of brilliantly portraying real people – think about her incredible performances as Julia Child, Margaret Thatcher, and Emmeline Pankhurst. This new part will add to that amazing list!
Meryl Streep, who has been nominated for an Oscar 21 times, will soon return as Miranda Priestly in the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, scheduled to come out in May. She’s also lending her voice to a new Pixar animated film called Hoppers.
