A new, secretive company called COR3CORP recently dropped a trailer for an upcoming sci-fi first-person shooter, labeled only as “PRJRPNT_BLUEMARS_FO.” While the trailer is light on specifics, it hints at a game set around large space stations orbiting Mars, and involving travel between planets. It concludes with a grim scene: the wreckage of a destroyed ship and floating bodies in space. The trailer then directs viewers to what seems to be the game’s official website.
So, get this – one of the people making this game is Nikita Buyanov, who’s a big name in the gaming world. He actually led the development of Escape From Tarkov, that super intense extraction shooter. Seriously, the guy behind that game is working on this new project – it’s pretty exciting!
The website adds to the intrigue, going beyond a simple preview of the game’s features or story. It’s an interactive story where you play as a “History Unfolded” investigator, using a secret terminal with hidden, password-protected files. A timeline is also available to explain the backstory, which includes the strange disappearance and reappearance of a spaceship carrying weapons near Venus.
The website hides further information within a ‘secret browser.’ There, you can find a document detailing humanity’s first ventures into space in 2092, along with magazine articles describing the colonization of planets like Mars. The last freely available document is a transcript from a 2205 Council meeting discussing strange occurrences on a drilling platform in the asteroid belt. Beyond that, access is limited to locked video and document folders.
This marks the first project for Buyanov outside of Escape From Tarkov, a game he’s been developing since 2012. After years in development, Escape From Tarkov officially launched in November and has already been a hit, selling over a million copies in its first month.
Even though the game was selling, its initial release had problems, and Buyanov had to apologize. He quickly mentioned that the team was already working on updates to fix the technical issues players were experiencing.
Buyanov announced on social media that they are rapidly adding servers around the world to reduce matchmaking wait times, as existing servers are filling up quickly. The team is also working to resolve current bugs and plans to continue improving and fixing the game over the next several months. He also mentioned they are addressing older bugs that have been present since the game’s alpha and beta testing phases.
We know the game launched with some issues, and we sincerely apologize. We’re committed to improving things and delivering great content for our dedicated players. We’re focusing on fixing the remaining performance problems, older code, and lingering bugs. While we addressed a lot before launch, there’s still work to be done.
