Thor, the God of Thunder, is one of Marvel’s most powerful and honorable heroes. His strength is largely tied to his magical hammer, Mjolnir. But Mjolnir isn’t for everyone; an inscription placed on it by Odin ensures only those considered ‘worthy’ can lift it. Even Thor had to prove himself before he could wield his own hammer. Over the years, other Marvel heroes have also been found worthy and gained Thor’s power through Mjolnir. Interestingly, many of DC Comics’ superheroes also possess the qualities needed to lift and use the hammer.
For years, people have wondered what it takes to be worthy of wielding Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. But in 2023, in Immortal Thor #5, the requirements were finally made clear. To lift Mjolnir, someone must show great compassion, self-control, honor, wisdom, and humility. Here are the DC Comics heroes who best demonstrate those qualities.
7) Flash (Wally West)

Wally West isn’t just the fastest Flash – many believe he’s the most selfless too. His dedication to protecting loved ones fuels his incredible speed, allowing him to truly master the Speed Force. Despite his universe-shattering abilities, Wally remains humble, using his powers for good. He’s known for his compassion and has even inspired some of his enemies to change their ways. While he faces his own internal struggles, Wally always strives to overcome them and be a force for positivity. He’d instantly risk everything to save others, and if he combined his speed with the power of Mjolnir, he would be an unstoppable hero.
6) Starfire

Similar to Thor, Starfire is a princess who was trained from a young age to be a powerful warrior and leader. On her home planet of Tamaran, she was well-loved for being kind and understanding. Even after years of being captured and mistreated by aliens, she remained strong-willed and compassionate. As a proud and dedicated member of the Teen Titans, Starfire has often stepped up as their thoughtful leader. While she usually shows kindness and holds back in fights, she’ll unleash her full power to defend her friends if they’re in danger. Given the chance, Starfire would definitely use Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, to protect Earth.
5) Martian Manhunter

Many consider Martian Manhunter to be the wisest member of the Justice League. Even after experiencing the devastating loss of his family and his entire race, he dedicated himself to heroism, refusing to let anger control him and embracing Earth as his new home. He’s an incredibly powerful telepath, but he primarily uses this ability to understand and comfort others without intruding on their thoughts. Despite occasionally feeling like an outsider, he sees humans as equals and is willing to sacrifice everything to protect them. His kindness, self-control, and strong moral compass make him truly deserving of wielding Mjolnir.
4) Nightwing

Okay, so we’ve all seen the Batman movies, right? Let’s be real, the guy is a control freak and way too into manipulating situations – definitely not Mjolnir material. But his first Robin, Dick Grayson, now Nightwing? That’s a different story. He’s honestly the most hopeful of all the Robins. He genuinely cares about people, especially the citizens of Bludhaven, and constantly uses his own money to improve the city. I mean, the guy founded the Teen Titans and showed from a young age he’s a natural, honest leader who’d give everything for others. And get this – even during that massive Dark Crisis event, with all that multiversal evil going around, Nightwing’s heart stayed pure. Seriously, he’s incorruptible. That’s the kind of person who deserves to wield Mjolnir, in my opinion.
3) Shazam

Similar to Thor, Shazam (also known as Billy Batson) has incredible, god-like powers, including the ability to summon lightning. When he was twelve years old, the orphaned Billy was chosen by the wizard Shazam to be a champion because of his pure heart. Given the powers of the gods, Billy has consistently shown he deserves his role through his kindness and selflessness. Even when transformed into the adult Shazam, he remains down-to-earth, keeping his innocent nature and strong desire to help others. In a crossover comic, Thor/Shazam! Infinity Comic, Marvel officially recognized Billy’s worthiness when he was able to lift Thor’s hammer to assist in defeating the villain Mr. Mind.
2) Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman, the Amazon princess, was raised to be a powerful warrior dedicated to truth and peace. Though a lifelong fighter, she always tries to resolve conflicts without violence, resorting to force only when absolutely necessary. When she does fight, she’s incredibly determined. She’s also known for her kindness, even extending it to enemies, and treats everyone with respect, regardless of their background. Wonder Woman demonstrated her strength in Marvel Versus DC #3 by lifting Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. But true to her honorable nature, she immediately dropped it during her fight with Storm to ensure a fair match, highlighting her self-control and integrity.
1) Superman

Superman truly lives up to his nickname, the ‘Big Blue Boy Scout.’ Despite having incredible, almost god-like powers as an alien, he chooses to live a normal life as Clark Kent. This makes him a symbol of humility, self-control, and kindness within the DC Universe. With a genuinely good heart, Superman always looks for the best in people and will risk everything – even his life – to save just one. He always prioritizes peaceful solutions over fighting and encourages others to improve themselves. He’s exactly the kind of person who deserves to wield Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. In fact, in the comic JLA/Avengers #4, Superman proved his worthiness by lifting Mjolnir and gaining Thor’s powers.
