Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Initial Sales Didn’t Meet SEGA’s Expectations

SEGA shared an update in November 2025 about how well its popular kart racing game, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, was selling.

The game had already sold a million copies, which was a great achievement, but the publisher was aiming for even more.

I was so excited to read the latest report! They announced that we’ve officially sold over a million copies worldwide, which is amazing! But, they also mentioned that things didn’t start off as well as they’d hoped – it sounds like they were aiming for even bigger numbers at the beginning, but they didn’t quite hit those initial goals.

The publisher hopes to sell around 1 million more copies before the end of March 2026.

The company aims to keep players engaged for a long time by consistently updating the game with new downloadable content and continued support.

Since launching last September, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has received several free character updates. Players can also purchase premium DLC packs that add even more characters, cars, and tracks featuring content from other franchises.

More downloadable content is on the way for the kart racer, adding characters and themes from Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

It’s unclear what SEGA’s future plans are beyond this release. We also don’t yet know how well the game is doing in terms of reaching its sales goal of 2 million units by March.

According to Eurogamer, Mario Kart World, the game’s biggest rival, had sold 9.5 million copies by last September.
