Hollywood is currently experiencing a strong wave of nostalgia that doesn’t seem to be fading anytime soon. Studios are increasingly choosing to revive familiar properties – shows and movies from the 90s, 2000s, and earlier – because they offer a sense of comfort and are considered relatively safe investments. Netflix has been a major player in this trend with revivals like Fuller House and Lost in Space, and they’re adding another reboot – a cancelled sitcom that originally ran for three seasons – to their lineup.
NBC brought back the popular sitcom Night Court in 2023, more than thirty years after the original series ended. Starring Melissa Rauch, the revival lasted for three seasons but was canceled in 2025 due to falling viewership. After its final season was removed from Peacock in November, fans lost access to all 47 episodes. Fortunately, sitcom fans will soon be able to enjoy the show again when all three seasons of the Night Court revival become available on Netflix starting February 3rd.
Night Court Was a Nostalgic Reboot That Deserved More Seasons
The revival of NBC’s Night Court successfully captured the spirit of the original while appealing to today’s viewers. John Larroquette’s return as Dan Fielding provided a welcome connection to the classic series, and Melissa Rauch’s portrayal of Abby Stone – the daughter of the original Judge Harry Stone – offered a fresh perspective. The show followed Abby as she took on her father’s role presiding over the late-night Manhattan arraignment court, keeping the original’s fast-paced, unusual cases and memorable characters. However, this new version also delved deeper into the personal lives of those involved, balancing the humor with more heartfelt moments.
The recent Night Court reboot felt very familiar, aiming for a comfortable and predictable sitcom experience that appealed to both longtime fans and new viewers. Despite recreating the show’s quirky courtroom setting and updating the premise for a modern audience, it ultimately failed to retain viewers and was canceled after a significant drop in ratings. While there was a possibility of continuing the story elsewhere after a cliffhanger ending, creator Melissa Rauch confirmed over the summer that all options had been explored and the show would not be returning.
What’s New on Netflix?
Looking for something to watch this February? Netflix has plenty of options! They’ve already added all three seasons of Night Court, along with Season 18 of Heartland and Season 3 of The Way Home. Later this month, you can expect all five seasons of the comedy Search Party, four seasons of the sitcom What I Like About You, and every episode of ABC’s Suburgatory. Plus, Netflix will be adding other favorite shows and brand new seasons of their original series.
