3 of the MCU’s Most Powerful Heroes Were All Introduced Within the Last 9 Months

The question of who the strongest Avenger is has sparked debate among both fans and the characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Hulk and Thor are often considered the top contenders, it’s still hard to say definitively who would win. Other powerful heroes exist too; Ikaris, from the Eternals, was once a major force (though he’s no longer in the picture), and Captain Marvel continues to be a key player with potentially limitless power that hasn’t been fully revealed.

As a movie critic, I’ve been watching the Marvel Cinematic Universe evolve, and it’s clear they’re really changing the game when it comes to power levels. While the Multiverse Saga hasn’t been perfectly connected, it’s become obvious they’re building towards the next two Avengers films by introducing incredibly powerful characters. What’s really struck me isn’t just that they’re adding these heroes, but how wildly different their powers are from anything we’ve seen before. In fact, Marvel’s given us three of its most powerful characters in just the last nine months – it’s a pretty exciting time to be a fan!

MCU’s Most Powerful Heroes Now Include a Kid and Two Others

Marvel has recently launched a flurry of new projects – the movies Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and the TV series Wonder Man – all seemingly building towards Avengers: Doomsday. However, these projects have another thing in common: each one introduces a character who quickly becomes one of the most powerful in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thunderbolts introduced The Sentry and his alter ego, The Void. The Fantastic Four: First Steps revealed the incredibly powerful young Franklin Richards. And Wonder Man showcased the impressive abilities of its titular hero throughout its first season.

Unlike the other heroes, Sentry’s powers are immediately showcased and proven. The film establishes him as being stronger than all the Avengers, and this is visually demonstrated through his ability to effortlessly deflect bullets, fly, and overpower numerous enemies – even the Thunderbolts and advanced weaponry like helicopters. Adding to his strength, his darker side, the Void, allows him to imprison opponents in a terrifying dimension that exploits their deepest fears and insecurities.

Franklin Richards showed off his incredible powers in First Steps by bringing his mother back to life after she made a heroic sacrifice. As many Marvel fans know, Franklin can alter reality itself, changing things around him instantly to match what he wants, and he also has typical psychic abilities. Meanwhile, Wonder Man revealed that Simon Williams isn’t just super strong and invulnerable—he can also create huge bursts of energy, which he used to demolish a Hollywood studio and break out of a seemingly inescapable prison. The introduction of these three characters represents the biggest leap in power levels the MCU has seen in ten years, and possibly ever.

Avengers: Doomsday May Test All Three of the MCU’s Most Powerful Heroes

It’s no accident that three incredibly powerful characters have recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This likely sets the stage for Avengers: Doomsday, and with these three major players now established, several possibilities emerge. One is that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will be able to showcase his full power by battling these new heroes – and two of them will be in the film. Just like Thanos made a statement by defeating Loki early in Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Doom could demonstrate his dominance by overpowering a character like Sentry.

It’s unlikely Doctor Doom will simply be stronger than Sentry, Franklin Richards, and Wonder Man when he appears. Instead, he might need all three of them to achieve his bigger plan. While we don’t know the full story of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, we know Avengers: Secret Wars will follow it a year later. If the movie mirrors the 2015 Secret Wars comic, Doom will be collecting pieces of different universes to build a place called Battleworld. He could potentially use the combined powers of Sentry, Franklin Richards, and Wonder Man to make this happen.

Franklin Richards might be the key to bringing all the different universes together, and Wonder Man could be what keeps them stable – similar to the role Molecule Man played in the comics. Plus, Sentry could give Doctor Doom the advantage he needs over everyone on Battleworld, potentially controlling him to subdue the multiverse’s survivors. It’s definitely not a random occurrence that three incredibly powerful heroes have appeared in the MCU so quickly. Now, the question is how Marvel will utilize them after setting them up.
