Lindsey Vonn Plans to Compete in Winter Olympics With Ruptured ACL

Lindsey Vonn isn’t letting go of her ski poles just yet.

Despite suffering a torn ACL in a crash at the World Cup in Switzerland four days ago, the athlete remains determined to compete in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina on February 8th.

Lindsey announced on Instagram on February 3rd that, after a lot of check-ups with doctors, therapy, and even a day of skiing, she’s ready to compete in the Olympic Downhill race on Sunday. She still needs to complete one practice run, which is standard procedure, but feels confident her body is up to the challenge.

I knew my Olympic prospects before the crash, and while things have changed, I still have a shot. As long as there’s even a small possibility, I won’t give up hope. I’m not ready to quit – the competition isn’t over yet!

The athlete, who was flown to the hospital after crashing during a jump on the upper part of the course, shared more details about her injuries, adding that she also has a bone bruise and tears in her knee cartilage.

I’m not experiencing any swelling, and my muscles are responding normally,” she said. “I’ll continue to work closely with my doctors each day to make the best choices, but I plan to compete on Sunday.

It’s heartbreaking to hear about her accident, especially since she just returned to skiing this year after a five-year break. Despite the injury, the 41-year-old Olympic gold medalist—the first American woman to win downhill in 2010—remains committed to the sport.

She shared on Instagram on January 30th that while facing a tough setback just a week before the Olympics, she’s confident she can overcome it and still pursue her Olympic dream.

With Lindsey preparing for the alpine skiing events at the 2026 Winter Olympics, here’s a look at other celebrities who have shared their personal health challenges.

Nikki Bella, known from Total Bellas, shared that one of her breast implants moved after being hit during an elbow strike from wrestler Piper Niven in a match that took place in July 2025.

She reassured her sister, Bella Garcia, saying they would get the issue resolved eventually. She explained to the doctor that as soon as she finished her current commitments – essentially, after her ‘boots were hung up’ – she would return to address the problem and make sure everything looked its best. She wanted to ensure things were presentable, as she anticipated future activity and didn’t want them to look unappealing.

Lupita Nyong’o, known for her role in 12 Years a Slave, received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her performance in the film.

She didn’t share her diagnosis until 2025, when she revealed on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with the condition for over ten years.

She explained that many girls are taught to accept period pain as a normal part of being a woman. This often leaves them dealing with a common issue privately and without support.

Okay, so I recently learned something that I think a lot of us can relate to! Riley Keough, who you might know from Daisy Jones & The Six, shared that she actually had to be hospitalized because of a hernia. And get this – it was caused by wearing pants that were just too tight! It’s a common thing, apparently – a gap in your abdominal or groin muscles – but definitely a reminder that comfort is key, even when it comes to fashion. I always say, don’t sacrifice your health for a look!

She messaged Suki on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “You haven’t tweeted in ages!” Then, jokingly, she added, “Have you ever thought that maybe I wore pants so tight six months ago that I got a hernia and I’ve been too afraid to mention it?”

The former star of Beverly Hills, 90210 shared in April 2025 that he was recovering from surgery for a nearly ruptured appendix.

Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain which led him to the emergency room. He explained he had a perforated appendix – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to doing so.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

A Racing Louisville soccer player collapsed on the field shortly after the start of a game against Seattle Reign on September 14th at Lumen Field in Seattle.

According to Reuters, the U.S. Women’s National Team player was seen slowly sitting down on the field with a teammate supporting her, just before collapsing. Trainers were immediately called to assess her condition.

After receiving immediate medical attention on the field, Savannah was taken to a nearby hospital for more tests, according to a statement from the National Women’s Soccer League. They reported that she is currently in stable condition and is alert.

Adam Devine revealed that injuries from a cement truck accident he experienced at age 11 continue to cause him problems now.

Let me tell you, the last year has been incredibly tough. I was dealing with these awful spasms all over my body, and honestly, doctors were telling me things were very serious – they actually said I might not have much time left. It was a really frightening experience, to say the least.

He acknowledged that his pain is intermittent, explaining that his body has some minor imperfections and doesn’t always function as expected.

A former contestant on The Bachelor went to the hospital in severe back pain, reportedly crawling because it hurt so much. The pain flared up during a road trip with a friend while traveling in an RV.

He described a persistent tingling sensation in his knees and toes during a March 2025 episode of his podcast, Trading Secrets. He explained that just a few weeks or a month prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he can’t even do a squat or stand on one leg without falling. He compared the feeling to having a stroke.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Gina Kirschenheiter from The Real Housewives of Orange County revealed that her ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack in March 2025, but he is now recovering.

In March 2025, the actor from 30 Rock experienced a medical issue at a New York Knicks game and had to be wheeled out of Madison Square Garden.

The comedian later posted on social media to explain he’d actually gotten food poisoning and was starting to feel better.

In February 2025, the former Even Stevens star revealed she was shot in the face during a birthday celebration for her husband, Brendan Rooney. They were on a clay pigeon shooting trip when the incident occurred.

In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone else at a party. They fired a weapon unsafely, and she was hit five times, with one bullet narrowly missing her right eye. Brendan Rooney quickly helped her, evaluating her injuries and immediately taking her to the hospital.

The former Kim Possible star shared that a small piece of something became stuck behind their eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, and they’ll continue to monitor the situation, as their vision is currently normal.

The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving a frightening experience. She shared how much she loves her daughters, husband, family, and friends, emphasizing the importance of cherishing loved ones. ‘I truly saw how quickly things can change,’ she said, urging everyone to hug those around them as often as possible.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, despite its often harsh nature, because it ultimately helped her understand a health issue she was experiencing. After noticing online comments about her “puffy” face during interviews, she was surprised to see doctors weighing in, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome. They pointed out changes in her appearance that prompted her to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. These injections, she learned, had caused the condition. Schumer shared that she wouldn’t have discovered this without the online commentary. She recently shared that receiving a diagnosis of a self-correcting form of Cushing syndrome and learning she was otherwise healthy was fantastic news.

In December 2024, an AHL player was accidentally cut by a skate during a game, requiring 25 stitches to close the wound. After his son fully recovered, New Jersey Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald told ESPN how relieved they were, saying, “We feel very lucky, and no parent should have to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly began to have stroke-like symptoms, struggling to speak and noticing her face drooping. Although the symptoms eventually passed, she went to the hospital for testing. Doctors discovered she had a small blood clot in her brain, which they identified as a TIA, or transient ischemic attack. Further investigation at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart, known as a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to travel to her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey successfully underwent a procedure to close the hole and is now recovering well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which temporarily paralyzed part of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the condition affected the nerves in his ear and face, causing paralysis on one side. He showed fans he couldn’t blink, smile, or move his nostril on the affected side, and that it was becoming increasingly difficult to eat. Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away.

Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well and feeling much better. She described the situation as scary and unexpected, but expressed her relief that he was going to be okay.

Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had initially kept private. In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, Foxx explained that he was suffering from a severe headache when he suddenly lost consciousness. He doesn’t remember the next twenty days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

After surgery, twenty days later, on May 4th, Foxx woke up in a wheelchair unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for extensive rehabilitation and therapy.

Foxx expressed his gratitude for the support he received, saying, “I appreciate every prayer, because I needed every prayer.”

The reality TV star said she temporarily stopped breathing while running a mile during the first challenge on the NBC show.

She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling as if she were floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, she remembers only darkness, followed by light, leading her to realize she had died that day.

She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where the body essentially starts to shut down.

Oh my god, I was absolutely devastated when I read Emilia Clarke’s essay. It’s just… unbelievable. She filmed all those intense battle scenes in Game of Thrones while battling something so terrifying! She described this awful headache at the gym, and then suddenly she was collapsing, just violently sick, and realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain. Turns out she had a brain aneurysm – a stroke, basically – and was bleeding internally. Immediate surgery, and she said the pain was just… unbearable. But that wasn’t even the worst of it. While recovering, she couldn’t even speak properly, just mumbling nonsense! Thankfully, that passed, and she got out of the hospital after a month. But then, a scan in 2013 showed the aneurysm had doubled in size! Another surgery, and it failed. She woke up screaming, and the doctors told her she might not survive if they didn’t try again – this time, they had to go in through her skull! It’s just… so much. But the incredible thing is, she says she’s now at 100%! I’m just so relieved and amazed by her strength. She’s a true warrior, both on screen and in real life.

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, recently shared how thankful she is for her family’s support after experiencing a stroke in January 2024. She immediately reached out to them, sending a text and a picture, and they quickly came to her aid, as she told TopMob News’ Will Marfuggi in December 2024. While she could have left the hospital after the stroke, existing health issues – including lupus and kidney problems – required a longer stay. Cori is now recovering well, saying she’s “doing great” and has been working to regain some motor skills. She’s optimistic and feels much better overall.

Shailene Woodley struggled with her health throughout her early twenties. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she explained that she experienced hearing loss, extreme fatigue, and digestive issues. She saw many doctors but received conflicting diagnoses.

Because she grew up with a holistic approach to wellness and studied herbalism, Shailene sought answers from both traditional doctors and alternative healers. This search for a solution took ten years.

During this difficult time, her physical discomfort led to anxiety around food and eventually, body image issues and questions about her identity. However, after focusing on both her physical and mental well-being, Shailene has fully recovered. She is now healthy and happy to share that her health issues have resolved themselves.
