Fans are buzzing about a major plot twist in the upcoming movie, The Drama, believing it was subtly foreshadowed in an old Reddit post. The A24 film centers on Emma Harwood (Zendaya) and Charlie Tompson (Robert Pattinson), a couple seemingly in love and preparing for their big movie premiere and wedding. However, their plans are thrown into chaos when Emma reveals a disturbing secret from her past, leading Charlie to doubt everything he thought he knew about her.
I’m so hooked after seeing the first trailer for The Drama! Everyone’s buzzing about what Emma’s been hiding. Some people think she’s involved in something criminal, others are worried it might have to do with drugs, and honestly, a few theories are really dark and personal. It’s got me completely on the edge of my seat!

The trailer didn’t explain what Zendaya’s character, Emma, did that was so bad in the past, but a Reddit post by user u/Hot_Relation899 might offer a clue. The post details an unhealthy obsession and planned encounters, potentially solving the film’s central mystery.

A woman started stalking her husband several years ago, becoming fixated on him immediately after spotting him walking his dog and chatting with her brother in a park.
The woman’s fixation spiraled out of control when she started intensely stalking and researching the man. This led to a detailed, long-term scheme to get his attention and create a situation where they would “accidentally” meet.

She finally met him during her junior year of college and they grew closer before he graduated. When he took a job in New York City, she intentionally applied to schools in the area, was accepted, and purposefully chose to stay near him.
After she finished school, they began dating and eventually got engaged. He thought everything was meant to be, but she was secretly manipulating the situation.
Overwhelmed with guilt for deceiving everyone, including her husband, she decided to confess everything and showed him a confession she’d posted on Reddit. While she claimed her feelings were real, her husband was upset and wondered how much of their relationship had been based on lies.

Despite the wedding happening, the husband later filed for divorce. After some consideration, he shared his reasons with his family, but he misrepresented his wife, portraying her in an extremely negative light, which worsened the situation.
In a final post on Reddit, the woman shared that she was upset with her husband’s choice, but admitted she likely brought it on herself.
Although it’s not certain if the Reddit post is a key part of the movie The Drama, it could be a surprising development that complicates the seemingly flawless relationship between Emma and Charlie.
Kristoffer Borgli directs The Drama, which will be released in theaters on April 3, 2026. The film features Zendaya (also returning in Spider-Man: Brand New Day), along with Robert Pattinson, Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates, and Zoë Winters.
Other Possibilities of The Drama’s Insane Plot Twist

Because the movie is building to a big surprise, adding this unexpected twist – and some other ideas from the online discussion – could really shock and amaze viewers.
It might seem easy, but creating a truly natural and believable connection takes a lot of effort. Many things have to come together perfectly for an encounter to feel authentic.
Beyond the possibility that Emma, played by Zendaya, was being stalked, there are other secrets that could be the big reveal in the movie. While theories range from a relationship with a family member to a past criminal record or even a canceled school shooting plan, these ideas seem too understated for the dramatic twists the film is promising.
Emma might have been responsible for the death of someone close to Charlie in the past. She could be marrying him now as a misguided attempt to deal with the guilt she feels.
