Just a heads-up – this contains spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga! Last September, Gege Akutami launched a sequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, set 68 years after the Culling Game. It’s illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki, and people are really enjoying the unexpected sci-fi twist and beautiful artwork. The manga was planned as a short sequel, expected to last about six months and only run for three volumes. Right now, the story is heading towards its conclusion, with the Okkotsu siblings facing their toughest battles yet. The focus is mainly on Yuka and Tsurugi as they deal with the challenges of the Jujutsu world, especially after the arrival of the Simurians – an alien race that has powers similar to sorcerers.
The new series continues the story in the same world, showing us what happens to characters we already know and love. It picks up after Yuta Okkotsu passes away from old age and sadness following the death of his wife, Maki Zenin. We also learn that Nobara Kugisaki and Aoi Todo have survived. However, the fate of Megumi Fushiguro, a key character, remains a mystery.
Megumi’s Fate Remains Unknown in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

Yuji has sadly watched most of his friends pass away over the years, causing him great grief. After Hana Kurusu’s death, he stopped speaking to Nobara and the others. With 20 chapters released and the series nearing its conclusion in just a few weeks, the story has revealed the fates of several characters from the original series, including Ui Ui, Mei Mei’s younger brother.
Interestingly, the story completely leaves out Megumi, a key character from the original. He’s important because his actions led to Yuji consuming Sukuna’s finger and becoming his host. Although he and Yuji and Nobara worked well together at the start, their dynamic fell apart after the events of the Shibuya Incident.
Megumi faced a lot of hardship during the Culling Game and the Shinjuku arc before finally regaining his happiness. Even after the main conflict ended, he continued to work as a sorcerer. Given how close he was to Yuji, it’s surprising the new series hasn’t mentioned what happened to him. But with a few weeks left, there’s still a chance his story will be revealed in the final battle.
