Okay, fellow sci-fi lovers, get ready! Valentine’s Day 2026 is shaping up to be huge for us. Honestly, if you’re a sci-fi fan – or dating one – skip the chocolates and flowers this year and just plan a trip to the movies. Consider this your official heads-up!

Both Cold Storage and Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die are coming out on February 13, 2026, and sci-fi fans will likely enjoy them. They both feature strong casts and talented directors who are taking a more independent approach to filmmaking.

2 February 2026 Sci-Films Are Both Critical Darlings

The new film, Cold Storage, is directed by Jonny Campbell, a rising talent in film and experienced TV director. The script was written by David Koepp, a celebrated screenwriter known for his work on blockbuster films like Jurassic Park, the 1996 Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man (2002), and War of the Worlds.

The movie boasts a great cast, led by Joe Keery, known for his role in Stranger Things, and Georgina Campbell from the 2022 film Barbarian. It’s a sci-fi horror-comedy about Travis and Naomi, who work the night shift at a self-storage facility built on an old military base. Their night takes a terrifying turn when a dangerous, government-contained fungus escapes from below. As the temperature climbs, the fungus starts to control bodies and cause chaos, and Travis and Naomi must team up with an experienced bioterrorism expert to stop it before it wipes out humanity.

The film also features acclaimed actors like Liam Neeson and Vanessa Redgrave, along with Lesley Manville, bringing a wealth of experience to the project. Sosie Bacon, known from Smile and the daughter of Kevin Bacon, also appears, as do a number of actors from the UK and Australia. Cold Storage seems like a fun, lighthearted sci-fi horror film that many fans will enjoy. Early reviews on Rotten Tomatoes give it a 91% rating, with critics praising the cast, story, and its enjoyable, unpretentious nature – perfect for a quick, entertaining watch.

Gore Verbinski, the director behind films like The Ring, the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, and Rango, is now bringing us Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. The script is by Matthew Robinson, who has a knack for fun, though often overlooked, movies such as Dora and the Lost City of Gold and Love and Monsters. The film centers around a man from the future (Sam Rockwell) who goes back in time and gathers a group of people from a Los Angeles diner to help him fight a dangerous AI.

This sci-fi comedy adventure playfully riffs on movies like Terminator, and the trailer shows Rockwell’s character using a wonderfully quirky time machine (the Christmas lights are a nice touch!). It’s interesting to see director Verbinski working on a smaller project again. The film currently has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and critics are comparing its sharp social commentary to Idiocracy, specifically its warning about our growing reliance on the digital world. While some reviewers feel the movie tries to tackle too many themes, others appreciate its ambition, even when those ideas don’t fully come together.
