There’s been talk that Mark Ruffalo‘s time as the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might be over, but Ruffalo himself hasn’t gotten the message. Recent reports claimed Disney fired him after he publicly criticized the Trump administration, but the actor has now firmly denied those rumors.
During the Golden Globes, Mark Ruffalo strongly criticized the president. He specifically called out ICE agents, referring to them as “stormtroopers” and linking them to the deaths of two Americans. Ruffalo then stated that the president is a “convicted felon, a convicted rapist, [and] a pedophile,” adding, “He’s the worst human being.” He expressed concern that relying on such a person’s morals to lead the country puts everyone at risk.
Online rumors quickly spread claiming Mark Ruffalo had been fired from his role at Disney due to his public statements. But during an interview about his new film, Crime 101, with Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry, Ruffalo immediately denied the rumors and confirmed he’s still involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Not that I’m aware of,” he said with a smile, responding to rumors about being fired. “People keep asking if I’ve been let go, but no, not that I know of!” Hemsworth quickly dismissed the idea as untrue. Ruffalo then added that he’s happy with his role and will continue as long as Marvel wants him. He jokingly hinted at potentially already having future projects lined up, concluding with, “I’m still around, just so everyone knows.”
Mark Ruffalo Is Set To Return as Hulk in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
Mark Ruffalo became known for playing Bruce Banner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after taking over the role from Edward Norton. Since then, he’s been a key part of multiple Avengers films, and has also appeared in supporting roles in Thor: Ragnarok, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and a brief scene after the credits in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
He’s joining Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day this summer. Fans are speculating about his character – will he be a villain or a supporting hero? – but his role is currently a secret. We might get some clues when the trailer is released, which is expected very soon, about how his character, Banner/Hulk, fits into the movie.

Even though Mark Ruffalo hasn’t been officially confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, most fans anticipate his return for Avengers: Secret Wars. What happens with the Hulk after that is uncertain, but many would love to see Marvel Studios resolve the character’s rights issues and finally make a World War Hulk movie.
