The new Star Trek series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, is a hit with both fans and critics. A second season is already in production, which is great news for viewers. If you enjoy Starfleet Academy and are looking for something similar, a Star Wars show with a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes might be perfect for you.
If you’re enjoying the current direction of Star Trek, you’ll likely also enjoy the new 2024 series, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. While Starfleet Academy has a respectable 89% critic score and 43% audience score, Skeleton Crew is performing even better with 92% from critics and 79% from audiences. Although Skeleton Crew won’t be returning for a second season, it’s still worth watching to experience what the show has to offer.
Why Didn’t Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Get A Second Season?

Even though Skeleton Crew received good reviews and people were talking positively about it, it wasn’t renewed for a second season – and as of today, that hasn’t changed. Fans have asked about a possible Season 2, but nothing has come of it, and the longer we wait, the less likely it seems to happen.
There’s been talk that some of the show’s characters might reappear in future movies or series, and the creators have a lot of interesting options. KB, Wim, Fern, Neel, and even Jod (played by Jude Law) could all potentially return. While the show didn’t end on a cliffhanger, the characters’ development throughout the series provides plenty of material for future stories.
The upcoming Star Wars movie featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu offers the best opportunity to bring together storylines from multiple Star Wars shows. It would be a pleasant surprise for fans if characters from Skeleton Crew also appeared in the film.
Jon Watts, one of the show’s creators, hinted at plans for a potential second season. He explained that it would likely need to jump forward several years in time. This leap would account for both the time that’s passed since the first season and the time it would take to produce a new one, preventing the same issues that occurred with Stranger Things due to long delays between seasons.
Watts hasn’t confirmed whether Skeleton Crew will get a second season. Currently, it looks like the show might be a single, excellent project created during a period when Disney+ was trying to produce too much content. While Disney+ has since slowed down production, the effects of that earlier push are still noticeable.
