Horror continues to be a hugely popular genre in Hollywood, and 2026 is shaping up to be a great year for the genre. The year started strong with 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which critics loved for its chilling atmosphere, though it didn’t reach a massive audience. That slight disappointment was quickly forgotten with the release of Send Help, a thrilling survival story that became Sam Raimi’s most successful horror film to date. With major sequels like Scream 7 and exciting new projects from acclaimed directors like Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! on the way, competition for viewers is fierce. And now, just as things were heating up, a new movie has entered the scene.
Prime Video has released a first look at Pretty Lethal, a new horror movie that combines the worlds of ballet and intense action. The film centers around five dancers – played by Maddie Ziegler, Lana Condor, Iris Apatow, Avantika, and Millicent Simmonds – whose trip to a major competition takes a terrifying turn when their bus breaks down in a secluded forest. They’re forced to take shelter at a creepy inn, and a newly released photo shows the cast covered in blood, hinting at the horrors that await them. Another image introduces Uma Thurman as Devora Kasimer, the innkeeper and a former ballet star.
Pretty Lethal Could Be a Major Horror Win for Prime Video

Originally announced as Ballerina Overdrive in 2023, Pretty Lethal is a new film directed by Vicky Jewson, known for her work on the thriller Close. The screenplay was written by Kate Freund, who also created the suspenseful series After Midnight. Starring in the movie is Uma Thurman, famous for iconic roles in films like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill. The cast includes talented dancers like Maddie Ziegler, a former student of the Abby Lee Dance Company, and Lana Condor, who trained at the Joffrey Ballet and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. This dance background is key, as the film is produced by 87North – the team behind John Wick – and promises action sequences that will showcase the dancers’ skills and training for realistic and exciting choreography.
I’m really excited about Pretty Lethal! It feels like it’s following in the footsteps of Abigail, which was a huge hit by taking the world of ballet and turning it into something totally wild and scary. It also fits right in with this awesome trend of movies led by women who are pushed to the edge and become incredibly capable fighters – think Ready or Not, You’re Next, and The Hunt. If Pretty Lethal leans into its fun, over-the-top story and really explores themes of women taking control, I think it could be a huge win for Prime Video and a standout in the genre.
Pretty Lethal is scheduled to be released on Prime Video on March 25th.
Did those first glimpses of Pretty Lethal get you hyped like they did me? I’m already thinking about it, and I’d love to hear your thoughts! Let’s chat about it over in the ComicBook Forum – come join the discussion!
