Kelly Ripa Reveals Argument With Kids Ended With 4-Hours of Silence

According to Kelly Ripa, her kids may not always have a picture-perfect attitude.

She reportedly stopped speaking to her three children – Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22 – and her husband, Mark Consuelos, during the holidays because of something posted on social media.

Let me tell you, Christmas can be stressful even for those of us who try to capture the perfect family moment! I recently shared on the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast how I actually had to step away from my kids for a few hours on Christmas Day. It all stemmed from a silly argument over photos for an Instagram carousel – each of them didn’t want certain pictures of themselves used! It was a reminder that even joyful occasions can have their challenges, and sometimes you just need a little break.

Kelly explained, ‘It’s really just a photo of us at church. There’s nothing complicated about it. We were simply posing in front of the Christmas tree.’

Kelly, married to Mark since 1996, decided to share her holiday photos her own way. The pictures included Lola, Michael, and Joaquin with their parents – in London, on the beach, and even candid shots taken during meals.

Kelly shared a festive family photo on Instagram with the caption, “Wishing you happy holidays from our family to yours!” She described the photos as a collection of moments from ‘here, there and everywhere.’

Although Kelly and Mark posted a photo with their friend on Instagram, they revealed they weren’t chosen to be in the yearly Christmas card.

Mark and Kelly are no longer asking their children to approve family photos each year. “We’ve cut them out,” Kelly said in a recent interview with People magazine.

As for their parents’ decision? Michael, Lola and Joaquin weren’t feeling quite as jolly.

Kelly explained that her family was upset about not being included on this year’s Christmas card. They expressed feeling hurt and asked how she could leave them out. Kelly responded that she was frustrated with having to constantly wait for their approval on a photo.

Although the children were a little disappointed with how many people came, Kelly mentioned that Mark especially loved the card they made.

I took a photo with the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders while on set,” the 55-year-old shared. “Mark was right in the middle, and we were all wearing our festive outfits. He looked absolutely thrilled – it was the happiest I’ve ever seen him in a Christmas photo.

After not sending a child back to school for the first time in two decades, Kelly decided to revisit a memory from 2008 to fill the empty space.

In a photo shared by their dad on Lola’s 19th birthday in 2020, it appears Michael is playfully surprising his younger sister.

Joaquin is surrounded by love at his high school graduation.

Kelly jokingly mentioned that @instasuelos learned he won’t be living with @joaquinconsuelos when Joaquin starts college at the University of Michigan this fall, sharing the news during a visit to Ann Arbor.

In March 2022, Kelly took a short vacation to Detroit to see the Wolverines compete in the Division 1 Wrestling Championships.

I was glued to the screen watching the wrestling matches, even though Joaquin, a freshman this year, didn’t compete. And honestly, when Kelly came back on air, she perfectly captured how we all felt – she said watching those young men compete took years off her life! It was so intense, and we all felt it right along with her.

After having to postpone their trip in 2020 due to the pandemic, the family was finally able to visit Greece and Italy in June 2021.

It’s so sweet – last year’s planned trip for my oldest son and niece ended up being a celebration for the newest little members of our family too! It was delayed just long enough that our newborns got to join in the fun. It really made it special.

Kelly loved a family photo taken during their Mediterranean vacation so much that she used it for their 2021 holiday card.

Kelly shared an old Easter photo from 2012, jokingly referencing her daughter’s often-disapproving reactions, and adding that her daughter, Lola, had given the photo her seal of approval.

Mark wished the “spectacular women” in his life a happy International Women’s Day.

“Happy Valentine’s Day to the loves of my life!” Kelly wrote from the heart on Feb. 14, 2022.

Kelly celebrated the fruits of her labor on National Sons Day, Sept. 28, 2021.

In 2021, Kelly Ripa’s son, Michael Consuelos, shared a heartwarming throwback photo with his mom to celebrate her 51st birthday. He wrote a sweet message wishing her a great day, calling her a strong inspiration and jokingly referring to her as a ‘T. Rex’ as a term of endearment.

In August 2020, Kelly Ripa posted a fun recreation of a family photo from 2003 on Instagram. She perfectly lined up her kids – Michael, Lola, and youngest son Joaquin, who sat on her lap – and joked that “objects may appear larger” in the updated version.

In May 2020, Kelly and Mark celebrated their son Michael’s graduation from New York University. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the ceremony was held virtually. Kelly shared her joy on Instagram, writing about Michael, “I can’t describe how much joy and pride you’ve brought our family. I love you so much!”

Kelly shared a nostalgic Instagram post showing how much her children have grown, comparing a photo from 2011 to one from 2019. She playfully noted, “The walls have gotten smaller!”

“The Graduate #2019,” Kelly wrote on Instagram celebrating Lola’s final days of high school.

Kelly receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2015 was an all-hands-on-deck event.

Kelly matched her son’s gown and the flowers at Joaquin’s middle school graduation.

When your family is this beautiful, you would likely be posing for selfies more often than not too.

Holidays always bring family together and this famous crew is no exception.

In 2003, Kelly Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos, attended the opening night of the show A Year With Frog and Toad at Maxine’s in New York City.

In 2001, Mark and Kelly brought their son to the premiere of Atlantis: The Lost Empire at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City.

This family always manages to have fun, no matter where they go – whether it’s a warm, sunny beach or a chilly, snowy landscape.
