DC Just Gave us Superman vs Homelander & 4 Other Wild Crossovers

Even with a huge, universe-altering tournament happening in the DC Universe, DC Comics is offering fans some lighthearted fun with the special issue, DC K.O.: Boss Battle #1. This one-time story fits right into the ongoing series, taking place between issues three and four, and features unexpected team-ups with characters from other popular franchises like Mortal Kombat and The Boys.

To power up against a new threat, the heroes of the DC Universe are sent on a quest beyond reality to collect more Omega Energy. This adventure leads to some surprising encounters – like the Joker becoming friends with Annabelle from The Conjuring, and Lex Luthor being haunted by the star of Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees. While the main storyline might not appeal to everyone, the individual moments between characters are often fun and engaging, and these five stories stand out as particularly interesting.

5. Joker’s Tea Party with The Conjuring’s Annabelle

It wasn’t shocking to see the Joker face off against Annabelle, the terrifying doll from The Conjuring movies. What was surprising was that instead of fighting, the Joker decided to have a tea party with her. While others were battling, he took a break to play pretend with this creepy companion. Naturally, things changed when he thought she moved, sending him into a panic. It’s always fun to see DC’s Joker do the unexpected – he constantly keeps you guessing.

4. Superman Punching Homelander

The most anticipated moment was definitely the fight between Superman and Homelander. Soon after entering the world of The Boys, Superman encounters the unstable hero, and Homelander feels threatened by his arrival. Their fight is surprisingly challenging for Superman. While I wish Superman had easily defeated Homelander, it was still satisfying to see him deliver some powerful blows. It wasn’t a complete win, but it was a good outcome.

3. Lex Luthor Being Terrorized by a Serial Killer Bear

I really enjoyed Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from Samantha’s appearance. But her short scene was genuinely funny! When Lex ends up in her world, she’s just committed a murder and immediately tries to kill him after he walks in on her. Lex is so shocked by what’s happening that he doesn’t even have time to react before she attacks. Although I wish the crossover had been longer, the image of Lex completely panicked while being attacked by a bear was fantastic.

2. Wonder Woman vs. Red Sonja

This fight gave Diana and Red Sonja plenty of space to battle it out. They faced off in a gladiator pit, and the fight was surprisingly even. Red Sonja even advised Wonder Woman to fight more aggressively to win. Diana took the advice, creating a powerful shockwave with her bracelets that briefly stopped the fight. It was a welcome change to see a more detailed and engaging fight compared to some other crossovers.

1. Plastic Man and Black Lighting vs. Sub-Zero and Scorpion

If I could pick just one crossover to highlight, it’d absolutely be the Mortal Kombat one featuring Plastic Man and Black Lightning against Sub-Zero and Scorpion. Honestly, it’s just so creative and easily one of the most fun fights I’ve ever seen. It’s unique as the only team battle in the series, and the way Black Lightning and Plastic Man work together is brilliant. Plus, as a Mortal Kombat fan, I lost it when Plastic Man hilariously adopted Scorpion’s famous “Get over here!” line for his own finishing move. It was perfect!
