Orbitals launches this summer

The cooperative adventure game Orbitals, featuring a classic anime-inspired retro style, is coming to the Switch 2 this summer. This was announced by publisher Kepler Interactive and developer Shapefarm.

Here is an overview of the game, via Kepler Interactive:

Orbitals is the first game from indie developer Shapefarm, based in Mitaka, Tokyo. Designed specifically for asymmetrical multiplayer, Orbitals lets you team up with a friend and enjoy a unique gaming experience.

In Orbitals, you play as Maki and Omura, two determined but inexperienced explorers who are best friends. They must work together to save their space station from a dangerous, otherworldly storm. Players will navigate challenges using special tools, pilot their ship through asteroid fields, and enjoy a beautiful anime-inspired world – all while strengthening their friendship on an exciting space adventure.

Built using Unreal Engine 5, Orbitals is designed to fully showcase the power of the Nintendo Switch 2 and offer a fantastic cooperative experience however you choose to play. You can team up locally with a friend using two sets of Joy-Con 2 controllers on one Nintendo Switch 2 for split-screen action, share the game with another player nearby using the GameShare feature on compatible Switch or Switch 2 consoles, or connect online with friends. The Nintendo Switch 2’s microphone and GameChat ensure clear communication, letting players around the world work together as a unified team to save the day.

Orbitals is a game that beautifully captures the look and feel of classic Japanese anime. Developed by Tokyo-based Shapefarm, it’s filled with authentic details and a clear love for the art style of the early ’90s. The team has built a completely original world inspired by retro anime, pushing the visual style in exciting new directions. To further enhance the experience for anime fans, Shapefarm collaborated with Studio Massket—the renowned animation studio behind many popular anime series—to create stunning, hand-drawn cutscenes. With full Japanese and English voiceovers, Orbitals aims to be a cooperative adventure that truly celebrates the anime artform.
