In a new Peppa Pig episode, George, Peppa’s little brother, will be shown with moderate hearing loss and will begin wearing a hearing aid. The storyline aims to raise awareness about hearing loss in children.
Next week’s episode, created with the National Deaf Children’s Society, will show George going to a hearing test where his family learns he has some hearing loss in one ear.
He is then fitted with a new hearing aid, enabling him to experience sounds in a new way.
Jodie Ounsley, famous as the character Fury from the show Gladiators, provides the voice for the audiologist in this episode.
Ounsley, a former England rugby player, author, and someone who was born deaf and received a cochlear implant as a young child, shared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain how excited he was to be involved in a Peppa Pig storyline. He said he loved the show when he was growing up and never thought he’d be part of it, especially playing the role of an audiologist.
She explained that the experience felt very personal because she could relate to the parents’ situation, having seen her own parents go through something similar. When she told them the news, she pictured herself speaking to her own mother and father. She felt privileged to be involved and is excited for George as he begins this new chapter.
When asked about her role models growing up, she said she admired many people, including her father and athletes. However, she didn’t know anyone who was deaf at that time.
She explained that she didn’t meet a deaf person until she was sixteen, which she found surprising. She believes it’s important for children to see this kind of representation on television to make it seem normal, especially since George, the character, wears a small blue hearing aid, and she hopes it will be viewed positively.

Ounsley shared her excitement on social media after being cast in a new Peppa Pig episode. She’ll be playing an audiologist who reveals that George has moderate hearing loss, and she said she’s thrilled to be part of the story.
This story really resonates with me. When I consider my family’s history and the challenges my parents faced when they were starting out, I feel like a story like this could have made a real difference for them back then.
It’s incredibly important for children to see themselves reflected in the world around them, as it helps them develop a sense of self and belonging.
I’m thrilled this story is raising awareness, sparking important discussions, and, most importantly, helping deaf children embrace their identities.
Peppa Pig debuted in 2004 on Channel 5’s Milkshake block. The series follows Peppa Pig and her family – Daddy Pig, Mummy Pig, her younger brother George, and little sister Evie.
