Tatiana Maslany, who plays She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently discussed her role’s future. She first appeared as the character in the 2022 Disney+ series, but hasn’t been seen as She-Hulk since. Some of her comments since then have led to uncertainty about whether she’ll reprise the role.
During a Twitch stream in 2024, she explained that a potential project likely fell through due to financial constraints. She stated, “I don’t think so,” adding that they had exceeded their budget and Disney ultimately passed on the idea. Further speculation arose from her appearance on the comedy podcast Comedy Bang! Bang!, where she hinted at these issues.
Tatiana Maslany has confirmed she turned down the opportunity to reprise her role as She-Hulk for future Disney projects. She explained she was upset with Disney for removing her from the movie Deadpool & Wolverine, and felt strongly about standing up for feminist principles. Maslany expressed her frustration with the initial casting decision, stating she was ’embarrassed’ by it. Despite Disney wanting her to participate in a large-scale film similar to Doomsday or Avengers, she ultimately declined and is now publicly confirming her decision.
It wasn’t clear if she was being truthful or just joking around on the podcast, especially since rumors about her possibly returning to Marvel were already circulating. Some fans believed her comments were genuine. When Entertainment Tonight asked her directly if she was serious or not, she gave a teasingly ambiguous answer.
“You’ll never know,” she said. “You’ll never know. I don’t know. Do you know? I don’t know.”
When asked about the possibility of future She-Hulk stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she became more thoughtful. She explained that the character has a long history in comics, spanning from the 1980s to the present day, with new stories still being created. This rich background, she suggested, is what could bring her back to the role.
She-Hulk Could Return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Tatiana Maslany recently spoke about her future with Marvel, and it comes after Mark Ruffalo – who’s been playing her cousin, the Hulk, for years – shared his own thoughts. The big question now is, even though Disney+ doesn’t seem keen on a second season of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, could we still see Maslany back as She-Hulk somewhere else in the MCU? It’s a possibility, but where exactly that would be remains to be seen.
The first season of She-Hulk included a guest appearance by Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil. Now, with Daredevil preparing to fight Wilson Fisk in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, what’s next?
You know, it’s been really interesting seeing everyone’s reaction to my little scene in She-Hulk. I was telling someone the other day about how that ‘Walk of Shame’ moment actually came together pretty last minute. They basically threw up a big green screen and had me walk across it holding my shoes! It’s funny, because it seems like people either really love it or really don’t – there’s no in-between!
The Matt Murdock we portray in our show would likely come across as too serious and become a source of humor in She-Hulk without some adjustments. He needs to fit the lighter tone of that series, and that’s actually consistent with many of the comic book versions of the character, which often feature a lot of humor and playful moments.
Regarding Jennifer Garner appearing in Daredevil, he explained it was a great opportunity and a lot of fun. He also hinted that she might return the favor at some point.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is streaming on Disney+.
