Despite a weak performance in theaters, Disney’s new Tron movie quickly found success when released for digital rental and on Disney+, and has been a streaming favorite ever since. However, it now appears to be losing popularity on the streaming charts.
While Tron: Ares initially performed well, its popularity on Disney+ is starting to decline. As of today, it’s currently in fourth place, falling behind Wonder Man, The Princess and the Frog, and Pupstruction Construction, according to data from FlixPatrol.
Tron: Ares received a mixed reaction from both critics and audiences. While the Tron franchise has never been a favorite among critics, this latest installment proved similarly divisive. It currently holds a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with many reviewers praising its stunning visuals but finding it emotionally lacking.
Viewers responded positively to the movie Tron: Ares, giving it an 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many specifically enjoyed the film’s music, created by Nine Inch Nails.
Tron: Ares Loses Ground on Streaming
The movie’s box office results were a letdown for Disney. Experts are now questioning how much of this was due to…
With actors like Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, and Benedict Cumberbatch struggling to find leading roles, some questioned why the studio would cast someone unproven and with a questionable public image. Others argued that even a more popular actor like Ryan Gosling wouldn’t have saved the Tron: Ares reboot, which they believe was unwanted to begin with. They claim pretending the film is good simply by suggesting a different actor wouldn’t change anything.
Jared Leto’s new film, Tron: Ares, continues a pattern of recent box office disappointments. His previous movie, Morbius, was a major flop that became a popular internet meme, and his portrayal of the Joker in the DC universe received a lot of criticism. Hopefully, Tron: Ares will fare better.
The movie Tron: Ares begins with a groundbreaking event: a powerful AI program named Ares escapes from the digital world and enters the real world, marking the first time humans have come into contact with artificial intelligence in this way.
Joachim Rønning directed the new film Tron: Ares, written by Jesse Wigutow. Jared Leto stars in the movie, and Jeff Bridges returns to reprise his role as Kevin Flynn from the previous Tron films, Tron and Tron: Legacy. The cast also features Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, and Gillian Anderson.
Tron: Ares is streaming now on Disney+.
