Yuto Suzuki’s popular manga series, Sakamoto Days, already had a large and dedicated following before the anime came out. The action-comedy centers around Taro Sakamoto, a former assassin who was once considered the best in the business. He happily gave up his dangerous life for his family. The story picks up five years after his retirement, when his peaceful life with his wife and daughter is threatened by figures from his past. 2025 was a big year for the series, as the anime adaptation was released, with the first season airing in two parts.
The manga is heading towards its epic conclusion, and fans are preparing to say goodbye to the series they love. Adding to the excitement, a live-action movie adaptation was announced last September. The film is set to debut in Japan on April 19, 2026, though international release dates haven’t been revealed yet. The trailer has received a great response from fans worldwide, and now the manga’s creator has shared their thoughts on the upcoming film.
Sakamoto Days Creator Praises the Live-Action Cast

With each new chapter of his manga, Sakamoto Days, author Yuto Suzuki includes a special message for fans. Viz Media shares these notes with readers worldwide in their “Mangaka Musings” section. Following the release of Chapter 246, Suzuki commented on the upcoming live-action film, excitedly stating, “The cast for the SakaDays movie is amazing!”
Suzuki couldn’t share many details about the upcoming live-action adaptation in his Mangaka Musings update, as those messages are kept brief. However, he’s pleased with how the project is looking so far. The film will be released in two parts and directed by Fukuda Yuichi, the screenwriter behind the popular Gintama Live Action the Movie. Ren Meguro, a well-known actor and member of the idol group Snow Man, will star as Taro Sakamoto.
The cast is starting to be announced, with Fumiya Takahashi playing Shin Asakura, Takumi Kitamura as Yoichi Nagumo, and Mayu Yokota as Lu Xiaotang. Both seasons of the anime are now available to watch on Netflix. If you’d like to read the original manga, you can find all the chapters on the Manga Plus app or on Viz Media’s website, which also has links to purchase the manga in both print and digital formats.
